What exactly are the advantages or disadvantages? Does siege artillery get calculated differently during a siege? does anyone buy them?

There was a thread about coastal artillery below, but i still do not get the advantage or disadvantage of it. Isn't coastal artillery static? Does it bring advantage if you build a new Fort with 2 supply and 4 coastal artillery? or are 4 field batteries also enough?

I have never bought coastal artillery - but I had an idea (harbour mod thread) that might make it more worthwhile :-

I think Jagger's artillery mod in the new patch makes siege artilley much more
worthwhile as you will actually get quite a bonus when you use it for sieges
(see mod forum for details) :-

No, it doesn't AFAIK. I tend to use the cheapest and weakest arty available in the state to build my forts with.

I'll confirm that. It doesn't matter which type of artillery you use. The artillery are spent (= removed), and the fort will not know what kind of artillery was used to build it.
