Leader Casualties

Ok I'm up to about February 1863 in my CSA ’61 campaign game and I am yet to see a leader casualty through battle for either side. Is this normal?
I have had 2 leaders wounded through the units they were with being wiped out and the partisan leader Quantrill disappeared after his unit was destroyed through lack of supplies but that’s been it. I thought I would have lost a few more by now.
Also I had Admiral Semmes turn up in Canada after his ships were sunk. I thought it may have been a problem to get him back to the CSA but he just caught a train down from Canada. I assume he was in disguise for the trip?

It's fairly possible for a leader to die in battle if he's a 1 star general.
The higher the rank the more unlikely the leader can be killed (VIPs observe battle from far and use attendants to carry orders so they don't risk their life).
This *should* be excluded in case your leader is trapped into enemy territory with a no-escape situation. In case you lose there he should be killed or taken prisoner but i'm not 100% sure of this.

I've been playing since the game was released and I haven't seen one yet.

3-star and 4-star leaders cannot be killed or wounded at all unless their entire command is annihilated in combat, if I understand correctly...
An ongoing discussion about the sense or nonsense (

) of this rule can be found here:

I had Hooker and McClelland die on the same turn in early 1861 in my first PBEM. In that game I have had several leaders "buy it" through 1863.

Much better chance if you're using the Leader Mod's 'combat.opt' file. Go into your combat.opt file and change the leader casualty parameter (whatever it is called) to 350 instead of 500.

Not yet. Or haven't heard anything from Hancock. I read he was on vacation.
Been waiting to upgrade to 1.06D till I hear it's cool.

The Leader Mod doesn't; however, you can still affect those leader casualties by doing what I mentioned above.
