Attack/Defense leadership values

When divisions are in a corps within army command range, which leaders (army, corps, division) will apply their attack/defense modifiers to the brigades/regiments within the division during combat?

Are the combat modifiers from all leaders within the command chain totalled or is it only the corps commander?

Basically, does the division commander stats matter once within a corps?

Well, based on obervations, the leaders who have higher attack/defence ratings tend to have more powerful divisions than those without. Stick a leader with 3-1-1 stats in command of a division, and one with 3-3-3, and the division 'power' number is significantly greater. The way I vew things, divisions are like little corps. They are affected by their divisional commander, then the stack itself is affected by the Corps commander (who is himself affected by Army commander).

So, I would say it is important to have leaders with high levels commanding divisions.

Army commanders may give a bonus or a penalty to their corps commanders, based on the army commander's ratings.

In combat, a unit benefits 5% per rating point from the corps commander, while the division commander provides 3% per rating point.

So, as McNaughton says, it is important to have good division commanders, but it is more important to have good corps/stack commanders :)

What does not seem to matter is the strategic rating of a division commander who is part of a corps. Only the corps commander's strategic rating is used, so I guess a 4-1-1 is as good for division command as a 2-1-1.

So, I tend to pull out the 4-1-1 type guys and use them for independent cavalry leaders and such.

I am thinking the same thing but they also would make good Aides de Camp.
