The new libraries issue..Pocus?

Pocus, you have mentioned that the crash issues associated with certain video cards would disappear when your ....libraries are changed sometime in the future. Of course, I don't even know what these libraries are or what this means. Never the less I was wondering if there was a better idea now as to when this may happen? I still get the blue screen crahses from time to time and have to restart to continue playing, so that is why I ask.

Hi gbs!

About a week ago Pocus stated in this thread: http://www.ageod-forum.com/showthread.php?p=33858#post33858

yes, within at most 3 months, AACW will use a new graphic library which will handle differently the display.

gbs wrote:[...]Of course, I don't even know what these libraries are or what this means.[...]

The routines used to handle the graphic display via DirectX are a third party product. They run very stable... with the now known exceptions. These libraries will be exchanged against another product, which handle the display in another way. I guess this is a necessary step for VGN but AACW may benefit from this too.

Cheers
Norbert

@ gbs:

I do not know if your problem was similar to mine, but as you can see in the technical part of the forum I have had my share of graphic crashes. They seem to be solved for now by changing in the settings the line MemUsage = 50 to MemUsage = 25. This represents the % of your ram that is used before a forced flush. The default (50%) was apparently the source of my problems. Lowering it (25 or less) did the trick.
By the way, I have 2 Gig Ram and an ATI 1600 256 Mb AGP graphic card

Hope this helps :cwboy:

Hi Greg!

gbs wrote:I'll try this but in what file will I find the line you are talking about? Thanks, by the way.

Greg

You will find the file in the game directory ...\AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Settings\
The filename is General.opt and the Keyword in the section: 4. *** System, Editing & debug options ***
You can edit the file with any text editor.

Good luck
Norbert

Found it. Mine said 75 instead of 50. I changed to 50 to see if that has an effect. If not, i'll go to 25 as suggested. Thanks again guys.

Well, sorry to gbs for not being totally clear on my first post and thanks to Primasprit for the needed explanations :hat:

@gbs: 75 is the setting that you get if you choose "high memory" in the options menu, and 50 the default setting (which gave me problems as well). You have to dwell in the general.opt file to change it to below 50. You might notice a small "hiccup" with 25, when scrolling through the map but I have not had critical errors since (pauses now, and knocks on some wood...)

Sincerely hope that you have luck :indien:
