Training Officers - odds on training units?

The "Training Officer" trait says that these guys "If the commander, will train up to two regiments of conscripts to regular soldiers every turn".

So I sent one these leaders to a spot with a bunch of conscripts, put him in his own stack with them, and nothing seems to be happening. (4 turns and not a single conscript upgraded yet.) So I am thinking it is a die roll, and maybe I am unlucky; but to test it I load up the same officer in a later war scenario. In this scenario the same leader trains consistently either 1 or 2 conscripts per turn, every turn so far.

So I was wondering if there is a die roll for the chance or could the leader be flawed in one scenario? See the attached for the stack the leader has been sitting in now for 4 turns with no change.

the name has not changed but the bold line to the left of the symbol seems to indicate that they upgraded.

can you send me a saved game?

Anecdotal evidence suggests that infantry will not "train up" until about September 1861 at the earliest. I sat a training officer in a stack of 15 conscript infantry and waited for 6 turns before the training started. Once it started, however, the entire stack was trained within 10 turns.

There is something weird in the training routine... I have found myself with conscript infantry with 3 stars experience (gold) doesn't that sound odd ?

Maybe it's just the description of the element is not updated and they still appear as "Cavalry (conscript)" when they are not anymore ?

Pocus - I'll get you the full game backup asap. What is odd is that if you load up the 1863 scenario and move Taylor to a stack of conscripts he trains them fairly consistently and the name updates properly ("conscript" is removed from same screen).

Stonewall - this game is in late 1862 so your comments about the date should not be a factor.

I can only see if something is wrong if you provide me with backups, don't forget them.

Finally got this from my hosting partner Pocus, check your email for the download site.

I moved R Taylor from the Missouri Bgd as shown above to Weightmans Bgd for the last couple of turns; Weightman also has conscripts but they display differently (the "conscript" only shows up in unit detail screen, unlike the above). Still no training at all after several turns.

You can also use this game to see the guns captured from Ft Monroe and the multiple USS Frederickburgs on map.

This training bug has been fixed according to Pocus; also the multiple CSS Fredericksburg issue.

I have seen McClellan train some bubbas in an ongoing 1/04 beta PBEM. So it seems to be working

I don't think this new fix is out yet, it's probably a different case than you are seeing - here are the specifics from Pocus:

"About this training bug, when militia is reformed into conscript, within a
volunteer brigade, the code prevented training. I revised completely this part
of the hosting and it works nicely now."

I have militia and consripts increasing in fighting value and cohesion while sitting in the same hex as McClellan. I had a cav go from conscript to hvy cav over a couple of turns.

I noticed that units sitting in the same stack all of a sudden were less than 100% cohesion, but were now higher than like units in the stack. The max cohesion rose along with the fighting values.

Not sure how else to describe it.

I'm curious about using an army commander like McC to train. Does the trainee have to be attached to the army stack itself? How about in a corps stack of that army, in the same space? Or a subordinate corps, different space? How about a unit in the space, but in a stack not within the army command structure?

In my case, he is not an Army or corps commander, and the units are in the same stack.

you must be in the same stack.

Training is handled in several ways: by events and by code. The event part works fine, so you can always get some training done. The code part NOW works fine :)
