Offensive posture

What does offensive posture do for a besieged stack? For example, CSA is besieged in Alexandria and there is a Union force sitting in the region. Does that mean a half-hearted Confederate attack next turn ? Did this two or three times and got defeated by a smaller Union stack. So, is it better to move my stack out of town before applying this posture?

Thx

I'm surprised anything happens at all. In BoA the stack would just revert back to defensive or passive if besiged. I'll have to try this although I just used to pick up the stack and move it outside the structure if I wanted to attack the besigers in BoA (with an enter structure order to get back in - I would also
normally leave at least one unit inside the structure)

Cheers, Chris

Thanks. It is somewhat misleading. You have 3 options when besieged, if you want to attack:
1. Offensive posture in town
2. Offensive posture outside town
3. Special order: sally out.

I guess 2 gives you probably the best concentration of troops while attacking.
At least it seems so.

1 is apparently useless! My stack got beaten by one cavalry unit twice in one turn. There were 10 units in my stack! Does the fact that I had emplaced batteries in my stack affected the outcome? I don't understand how Offensive posture works for besieged units.

this does not matter, offensive posture or putting the stack manually outside leads to the same combat. Sally out is a conditional order, only if you get a relief force.
