Movement of Corps

Say you have an army of 3 corps in region a and want to move the army headquarters and two corps into region b and leave 1 corps in region a.
You can't use synchronize movement into region b, because all 3 corps would so move, therefore you would need to move army headquarters and 2 corps individually into region b, or first detach a corps from the army and then use synchronized movement. Is this right ??
I'm really having trouble working this out.

Select the Army HQ and use synchronized movement then go back and select the corps you want to stay and delete the move. You could remove the corps from the army but it would then lose any bonuses given by the army commander.

alternatively, unselect the synch move order on the corps you want to move alone, then drop the army. The synch corps will move with it, the other will remains in place.

Maybe I'm missing something but when I order an army to sync move and then try to leave one corp behind I can't seem to cancel that corps move. In fact when sync move is selected at the army tab it automatically gives the same order to the corp even though the individual corp buttons for sync are not engaged. Any advice appreciated.

Select the corps and push the delete buton to cancel the move.

I tried that but the corp still moved with the army. Any other suggestions?

buffewo, Chris0827 & Pocus:
Chris' method works; but buffewo is right, when you select army sync. the individual corps are not sync. selected, so there is nothing to de-select. Pocus, you must have something else in mind.

I've had no problems with this. Plot the army's move, select the corps you want to stay behind and either delete the move, or drop it on it's starting region to cancel the move. Make sure you don't move the army again after you've deleted the corps move or it will screw it up. Not sure why you're having issues with it.

I found the problem. After the army is selected for a sync move, it must be actually moved. Then you can go back and either hit the delete key for the corp that is to stay behind or drop its tab back in the region of origin. What I was doing before was trying to delete the corp move before actually dragging the army to its new destination.
Thanks to all for the help.

What if the Corps don't start in the same region?
I'm trying to converge 3 Union Corps on an enemy army.

In this case, you have three options.
1) leave the corps where they are and hope they join the battle on their own using the "March to the sound of the guns" logic.
2) Move the three corps to the destination region and hope you don't arrive separated by too much time.
3) Move the corps to the same region then use the synch move.
I usually go with option 2 unless I need to keep the area covered against other forces, then I'll go with 1. Coordination was always a problem during this time, so synchronizing a movement across spaces that large was a big problem. Grant had major issues with coordination even late in the war, and it cost him quite a few chances for successful offensives.

Now, let's see, here. If I choose option 2, I gotta forget about option 3, and I gotta be careful not to make my army not move while I'm trying to get my corps to move, and option 1 is incompatible with...
Sheesh. And they said you could train a chimpanzee to play this game it was so simple.
