Mortality of Generals.

How does the game handle the historical deaths of generals? I.e. Is Jackson removed from the game after Early May 1863 or does the generals actually have to die in game to be removed?

Hi cankre,

Welcome to the Ageod Forums (although you registered in September, this is your first post, isn't it?). :thumbsup:

Regarding your question, if I remember correctly the only two units that are removed by event from the game are CSA Belle Boyd (in Early March 1863) and USA general Robert Patterson (Early August 1861).

Greetings. :hat:

And Samual Cooper (although also not based on mortality).

Charles

Yes, you're right Charles. :thumbsup:

I also forgot to include Winfield Scott. Both Scott and Cooper resign in Early November 1861.

There is a small % chance each battle of a general dying. The % varies depending on general rank (1 * have the highest mortality). So there are not specific death dates for certain generals (although several do retire, or are removed - like Little Mac is removed due to his Presidential bid in 1864).

By the way, what happens to John C. Fremont? If I remember correctly, the manual says he should be removed from the game at some point. Is this true? From my experience this never seems to work.

Hi Gen. Monkey-Bear, :thumbsup:

Well, Lincoln relieved Fremont of command on November 2, 1861. In my games, if I remember correctly, I think sometimes Fremont has been removed, but it's something that doesn't happen always.

So I've searched a little bit and have found this:

SelectFaction = $USA
SelectRegion = $Saint Louis, MO
StartEvent = evt_nam_USA_Fremont1861|0|2|evt_txt_USA_Fremont1861|Event-img_USA_Fremont1861|$Saint Louis, MO|118

Conditions
MinDate = 1861/08/30
MaxDate = 1861/11/02
Probability = 50
EvalUnqUnit = John C.Fremont

Actions
DescEvent = evt_desc_USA_Fremont1861

SelUnqUnit = John C.Fremont
RemoveCuUnit
GenMsg

EndEvent

*********

Perhaps, and according to my interpretation, there is a 50% chance that Fremont is removed.

Anyway, others members who know better the game files, such as Captain_Orso or Bohémond, could be more precise than I am.

Regards. :wavey:

Hola Julio, qué pasa :wavey:

Actually there's a 50% chance of Fremont being removed each turn from '61 Aug. 30 through '61 Nov. 2, which is 5 turns (2 in Sept., 2 in Oct. and the first Nov. turn). That makes for a mean 3,125% chance of NOT removing Fremont.

The odd thing is that I don't remember having him removed that often :confused:

About the random fatality of leaders, AFAIK there is no differentiation between the rank or position of a leader and his chance of being killed; it's a flat 0.2% per leader in a battle per battle or round of battle; I don't remember the last part exactly.

Thanks for the welcome! Yes I registered a while back. I was looking for a civil war computer game at this level. After much research and reading I broke down and bought the game. Wow! This game is awesome! You see, I play alot of civil war miniature games, so when I'm not painting tiny little soldiers, I thought this game would be a great way to wind down after work! Boy was I wrong! The first day I got the game I was so immersed, I lost track of time. Yikes all of a sudden it was 2:00 am and I had to get up the next day for work!

I so wish there was a way to use the game in conjunction with my tabletop games in order to run a campaign. If I was able to manually input results of battles I play with my friends I would be in heaven!!!!

Woo hoo! I guess I can now see what kind of effect Jackson would have had in the later years! I so can't wait!

Hey Thommy, cómo estás? ;) Me gusta tu español (Spanish language). :thumbsup:

I agree. Because of this such high possibility, I also think it's odd that Fremont hasn't been removed more frecuently.

Wasn't it so, in some previous patches? I thought so. At least, I believe that read it somewhere.

Yes, this game is very very addictive. Soon you will be a victim of the "only one more turn" syndrome... :wacko: :evilgrin:

I'll have to re-check the update file after I get back home about killing off those slag-generals ;)

Okay, I've been searching and have found the following in the GameLogic.opt file:

cbtLdrCasuDiceSides = 500 // Nb of sides for the casualty dice for rank 1 leaders, at the end of combat (twice as low for rank 2, rank 3 excluded)

Does this confirm what Jim said and what I had read somewhere? Thom, anyway I need you to decrypting this 'hieroglyphic'. :bonk: :neener:

On a face value I would say yes. From experience, the comment to that parameter is not correct.

The parameter was introduced in patch level 1.04 on Tuesday, June 12, 2007. I started playing at about patch level 1.13 and I know that Lt.Generals are vulnerable to being killed because in happened to me: Gen. George Meade 31 Dec. 1815* - 26 Dec. 1863+

But in the above thread Lodi states that the higher the rank of the leader, the lower the chance of that leader becoming a casualty. It would be pretty difficult to actually test this out, but I'll take Lodi's word on this. So I think the comment in the parameter is wrong and that it works like Lodi stated.

Actually, this parameter is Deprecated, and now the chance is defined in Models DB for each leader as:
CombatDeathChance ( where 1 = 0.01%)

Since the individual values for this were never assigned, the default value of 20 [=0.2% chance] applies to all leaders, all ranks....
In the other games, these values are assigned in Models, but, um, previous administration didn't do it for AACW [nor NCP]

References:
RUS goes as high as 1000 [Lenin, Kolchak]
ROP very very low [3, 2, 1]
WIA seems Ok [60 40 20 IIRC]

It is suggested that in games with "Command Structure" that 3* value be = 0, as death of an Army Leader causes havoc [especially for Athena]

OK, Lodi, thank you for the remark. :thumbsup:

That's that part that I remember, I just couldn't find the quote. Need sleep; see above ;)

For me too :bonk:

But its the challenge that makes the game interesting :thumbsup:

But what a shame that Fremont doesn't get removed more often :( . I could use a few less idiots in command!
