Hey hey,

Am I correct in assuming that a force that retreats from a battle will do so into a structure if one exists in the region? Or is there a chance that it will simply vacate to another region even though a structure exists to flee to?

I am pretty sure that if your force retreats, it will move out of the region and never into a structure.

Yes, with one exception, if you have the enter structure at the end of turn icon selected and you have a unit inside the structure.

That's interesting Durk; I'll have to keep that in mind. But IIUK that also means that if your stack is not forced to retreat, it will still enter the structure, because that's the orders that it was given.

I can remember just once having a stack retreat into a structure that wasn't planned as above, and it may have been into a fort, but I don't recall exactly.
One more for the wish list -- retreat into fort/town if forced and possible.
One more situation might illustrate why some variations happen with retreat into structures. If you are inside a structure and you move your force outside the structure to attack or just to chase your opponent away staying in a defensive posture, you will almost always retreat back into the structure.
