Signal Corps

Quick question: Are there any benefits to signal units beyond the increase in command points in the stack they are in? Will attaching one to an Army distribute the bonus to the subordinate corps?
Thanks!

Hi
Jerzul,
No other benefits. And the bonus (+2 CP) is only for the stack where the signal unit is. So it won't be able to distribute the bonus to the subordinate Corps.
Greetings!

That's too bad. I feel for the north (and the plethora of Generals that they have) that the money required to build a signal unit is probably best used elsewhere. (IMHO).

IIRC - They allow you to get over the 8 CP limit for generals (as they don't count as such). So if you have a 10 CP stack with 4 generals that is not a corps, you add the signals unit, and *poof* there goes your command penalty.

Yep, regardless of abilities that can increase CP's (Strategist, Good Cmd, Gifted Cmd,Good Subordinates), you can get 8CP's from generals + 2CP's from a signal unit + 1CP from a balloon unit = 11CP's... Not bad!

I believe as well that they can be used in battle as support units if the stack lacks artillery. So this is a small advantage in addition.

Not to be (too) sarcastic, but to what end would plugging your signal corps into the line do other than possibly distract them ala Uhura's fan dance?

Yes, you are right. It would be quite ridiculous to rely on these boys to do the fighting. Still, I was simply pointing out that they can serve some other purpose than extra command points, even if they serve the purpose badly.

The way I see it, is that the Signal Corps becomes obsolete once the Corps command structure is adopted by both sides in March of 62. If the USA wants to make a major invasion in 1861, a good way to gain an advantage is by using the signal corps.
They can also be a help in Missouri/Arkansas with leaderless stacks or a division with only one general.
