detection values and supply (newbe-ish questions)

Hi all,
I am starting my first full campaign and have a couple of questions.

First question are the different levels of detection.
I was wondering what are the different values and if the markers on the bottom mean anything.
An enemy force is seen out of the fog of war.
When you hover over the unit you sometimes see power values and sometimes not.
What determines if you can see power values or not?
If you are unable to see any power values do the markers on the bottom have any meaning?

Are these values ever wrong? (i.e bad intelligence)

It seems if the unit is in the city you can't see the power values? True?

Are there any other levels of detection? For example is it possible you see one force's values in a region but not another?

2nd question is on supply. When i click on the supply filter on certain cities you see little icons of next to the city. I assume this is the level of supply at/reaching that city. Do they have an actual value? Each icon = xx supply?

Does anyone use this to get an idea of supply bottlenecking?

I have just begun a full campaign so am sort of new to supply.
In terms of supply I just need to ensure 1)that enough supply is getting produced and 2) that it's getting to where it needs to go. Basically for #2 just make sure I build up/protect depots as I advance. Is that basically it?

Thanks in advance!

There's some good information in the link below on detection.

Intellitips

Basically, your detection is compared to his hide value. The higher your detection value is above his hide, the more you know.

As to supply, the icons (boxes or cannonballs) only show if there is more than approximately 25 points in a city. If less, then no icon, if more then icon. You can use the supply filter to see supply movement. If you hover over a region, it tells you your supply, and there is a marker on your unit telling how much supply you consume.

As to building depots, you start out with a fully functioning supply network (mostly). Depends on which side your on. Some folks say a depot in SW Virginia helps out the CSA for example. You need a depot every 3-5 regions moving forward, preferably linked by railroad to the last depot. You'll also need railroad points and riverine points (you can see them at the top of the screen). If you have enough rail, you are at the 1/3 or maybe 2/3 or maybe 3/3 levels. This allows you to move supply 5 or 10 or 15 regions (moving 5 regions each time).
