How Losses Affect Victory Points

As the title sez, I'm interested if anyone can explain how combat losses affect the VP totals. For example, If the CSA loses 1,000 men and 10 cannon, and the USA loses 2,000 men and 20 men, is that worth 1 VP or what?
Anyone who could shed light on the algorithm would be a friend to all those in the tourney, which is likely mostly VP-based (assuming no one gets an outright win). VPs don't matter so much in games with no time limit, but will in our tourney.

First, although very brief, here's a starting point:
http://www.ageod.net/agewiki/Victory_points Note only
elimination of elements by
loser of a battle.
Second, to clarify who "wins" a battle:
http://www.ageod.net/agewiki/Combat_Explained#Ending_Field_Combat Third, each Model (aka Element) has a VP value that is awarded when eliminated (the definition of "how many points from destruction of an element")
Men, horses and guns are "flavor only" and do not enter into any calculations.
So, in brief:
VP for eliminated elements to the winner of a battle. ...of course, then there are the VP for control of Objectives, Strategic Towns, and from events....

Thanks for those links Lodi

. I'm going to have to go through the Wiki again. It seems I've missed a few things

.
I wonder how the engine calculated this one
I guess Sumner wasn't considered to have withdrawn
