Randomize Option?

It might be interesting to have an option to randomize which generals get which stats / stat progressions. In other words, Picket might have Lee's stat progression, and Lee might have Stuarts, while Stuart has Longstreets. This would add some interesting replayability as one discovers which generals are promoting well and which are not (just as Davis and Lincoln had to figure out for themselves). :8o:

you might want to check the general mesg bd, but i believe that there won't be a random option, but instead, a player will have the opportunity to hide the name and abilities of a general until all is discovered. so, while lee will always be lee, you won't know it until he's been active in the game for some time.

That might help, but you'd still have a good idea as to the value of promoting (or not) individuals. It would be fun to have to find that out the hardway.

About this feature, I was wondering, wouldn't the players learn where the leaders are at game start after playing the game a few times? I mean, after playing the full scenario three times, wouldn't you start to figure out that R.E. Lee is always the third unknown general in the stack at Richmond, for example?

To use BoA as an example, wouldn't the American player automatically know that the 'unknown' general leading the rebel army at Boston at game start was in fact Artemas Ward?

Is there any method to shuffle the leaders?

We are discussing the problem in the beta forum. Because this can be a problem right. Shuffling is not an option that can be done easily. Randomizing completely leader stats is not very appealing either.

second thought, perhaps as an alternate scenario setup, not sure we will be able to do that for release.

Here's how it might work:

1) Some leaders would be flagged as 'locked' and would never be shuffled. E.g. Winnfield Scott would always be the general in charge of DC defense.

2) Randomizing stats isn't pretty, it might lead to some really odd results, so I'm just suggesting shuffling names. I would associate variables with the stat progressions of those leaders that are not 'locked' as above. So, CSALead1 might get progressions CSAProg1_0, CSAProg1_1 and CSAProg1_2 in the default game, and CSProg31_0, CSAProg31_1 and CSAProg31_2 in a shuffled game.

I'm not sure if you change naming or unit cards with promotions, but that would add an additional level of complexity.

This will clearly lead to biased results against one side sometimes. Warn folks in the description that this will happen and call it good.
