1. Favorite side, overall:
(b) CSA

2. Favorite side, when discovering the game:
(a) USA

Overall, i always prefer the underdog but I'd probably start with the Union since they should be more forgiving of initial mistakes.

3. Do you read the rule
(b) when I have played a bit the game/after the tutorial

Read the rules? You know that I have trouble even reading the tooltips! :niark:

4. Do you play the tutorial
(c) depends

5. For the out-of-the-box game, Do you prefer a balanced game or a historical but biased one (taking into account that you can give an advantage/disadvantage to the AI as you wish)
(b) biased historical

6. Do you play the smaller scenarios
(c) just to discover the game

1. Favorite side, overall:

2. Favorite side, when discovering the game:
(a) USA
But perhaps it would be better to force me to play the tutorial with the CSA in order to make me discovering this side.

3. Do you read the rule
(c) when I need a specific answer

4. Do you play the tutorial
(a) yes

5. For the out-of-the-box game, Do you prefer a balanced game or a historical but biased one (taking into account that you can give an advantage/disadvantage to the AI as you wish)
(b) biased historical

(balanced can be nice if playing PBEM, but overall I would prefer a biased historical game with balanced victory condition therefore offering a real historical challenge. I don't want to change history, I just want to do better than history).

6. Do you play the smaller scenarios
(d) when I have few time
(and when I'm betatesting :niark: )

1. Favorite side, overall:

(b) CSA

2. Favorite side, when discovering the game:

(a) USA - Same reason as above. Much more forgiving of mistakes. I don't mind completely screwing up my first game, but I don't want to go down in 5 turns either, so I usually start with the better side until I have a full handle on the game mechanics.

3. Do you read the rule

(e) other - I usually get into a game to look around right after installation just to see what there is to see. With an easy enough interface and such, the manual becomes only spare time reading. Other games, I get in, and realize the manual is a must read. :) I don't mind either way, I'll read anything.

4. Do you play the tutorial

(a) yes

5. For the out-of-the-box game, Do you prefer a balanced game or a historical but biased one (taking into account that you can give an advantage/disadvantage to the AI as you wish)

(b) biased historical - Nothing irritates me more than a game that advertises as a "Historical wargame" then fails to deliver even a modicum of actual historicity. Which is why I still haven't brought myself to buy FoF yet. Maybe once it's modded or they release a historical add on.

6. Do you play the smaller scenarios

(b) all - While there's nothing like playing out the game on the biggest stage possible, when you're not in the mood for something big, those small scenarios can be a blast. And quick enough I can still get to bed at a reasonable hour. :)

1.CSA
2.CSA because there is much less to handle for an introduction.(the Union have amphibious operations, fleets, more economic options, leaving garrisons etc...) thus he can be overwhelmed rapidly.
3.b
4.a
5.a
6.c

1. No favorite side

2. I said: No favorite side! :-)

3. (d), always before playing

4. (a) yes I always do

5. (b) biased historical

6. (e) when I know the campaigns by heart

1) USA

2) USA

3) when I need specific information (but usually I browse through them while installing if I have them available on paper)

4) yes I usually play the tutorial

5) biased historical

6) Never (or at least very rarely) play the shorter campaigns in a game. I don't like to have short term objectives forced on me, I prefer the long term objectives.

Edited according to the wishes of Pocus. :)

For the out-of-the-box game, Do you prefer a balanced game or a historical but biased one: (b) biased historical IF there is a balanced 'victory point' system (which IMHO is not completly the case in the FIW BOA campain) meaning the 'best' player will win in terms of victory points including when is side cannot win in an historicla way
6. Do you play the smaller scenarios: (c) not really, just to discover the game

1. CSA

2. CSA

3. Before playing.

4. Balanced (within the bounds of historical plausibility). If can capture the uncertainty that faced the real-life actors, within reasonable historical constraints, then you've really accomplished something.

5. When I know the campaigns by heart.

1. Favorite side, overall?

CSA

2. Favorite side, when discovering the game?

CSA

3. Do you read the rules?

When I have played a little and usually after the tutorial.

4. Do you play the tutorials?

Yes.

5. For the out-of-the-box game, Do you prefer a balanced game or a historical but biased one (taking into account that you can give an advantage/disadvantage to the AI as you wish)

Biased historical, please! ;-)

6. Do you play the smaller scenarios?

If they're well designed, indeed! (Unfortunatley I don't always have the luxury of a lot of time). Enjoyed most of 'em in BoA.

If the player with the advantage does no better than the historical commander he should expect no more than a draw at best.

by biased historical I mean: do you want the historical setup and economic ratio, or do you want it altered so to have a balanced game. Balancing by victory points will be done in both cases anyway.
