Dear all,
Yes it is true. AACW was released just 3 years ago! While being definitively in a good shape when released, we can only thanks again and again all volunteers who spend countless hours working on it with their free time. A special mention to Gray_Lensman (Michael) for his awesome dedication.

We are hopping that one day people will see AACW as a 'classic' of the Civil War, until a new game supersedes it, that is

Pocus is getting old himself, the release was in
2007, not 2006...it's still 3 years ago

Edit by Pocus: True, I see that Herodote has still quite a memory. I edited the thread accordingly

And it it still the best ACW game on strategic level I've ever played. I hope it will be AACW2 which will surpass it, not some other title

The amazing thing, is how many new people are "discovering" it. Every day there are still people joining the forums, and getting involved.

And use all the Cool bits from Rise of Prussia.
As in choosing where your new troops are built (instead of getting 2 of the big Virginia brigades smack in the middle of a front that is about to be overrun. Events with choice and a point system for other cool actions.
Great three years

I have been playing for all three years. Can't see how anyone could make a better game.

And even after three years this is still a great game to play. Not to mention the excellent support the game receives both from AGEOD and its fans. Looking forward to an ACW2 if it comes out.

That is so wrong.... and yet so accurate.

Since I was a little powder monkey, pushing cardboard chits in board wargames, I've been looking for a good Civil War game. This is it, and it was worth the wait.
Civil War board games were rare to begin with, and either too simplistic (Avalon Hill's original Gettysburg) or too monstrously complex (Avalon Hill's Gettysburg '77 or SPI's Terrible Swift Sword). It seems that it took a computer game to bring a true strategic simulation of the Civil War to life.
I wonder if any old board wargames influenced AACW? There was an SPI game called The Civil War that had a leader activation rule similar to AACW, but I was never able to obtain a copy of it so I can't really compare them.
Anyway, on to Richmond, at long last. Thanks.

Now I understand why I like so much AACW, I was already a fan of Victory Games "Civil War" game.

Ah yes, I have my own copy on the bookshelf Pocus! I also like TSS, although it played best as a team game (more fun too). Also, the remake of War Between the States by Decision Games. I have
waaaay too many boardgames, and computer games...
Here's to looking forward to a stellar second version that takes the American Civil War to the next level.

150th anniversary of Fort Sumter bombardment coming up in less than a year! Any chance of a new version by then?
If not then by April 9, 2015...
