Have noticed that seniority and experience seem to only be awarded for a successful attack, never for a successful defense. Has anyone else noticed this?

No, from my experience it doesn't mater if you attack or defend, but how many enemy hits you make
Cheers

yes, this is the difference between how many hits you give and how many you receive.

I'm not sure what that means. Are you saying that XP and seniority are only granted when a unit scores more hits than it takes? I haven't seen that to be the case when defending, only when attacking.

I think destroying units gives XP even faster. Otherwise you have to shred the enemy to like 30% strength while taking almost no casualties.

Different units recieve different amounts of XP for a battle. For example, in a PBEM game against Paul, I destroyed 1 cav unit (and 1 during the retreat I think). After the battle, I checked my units, and noticed that they had quite different XP amounts (anywhere from 0-30 xp). Most subelements in the stack were at 0. In a brigade, most were in the 2-8 range, with 1 subelement of the brigade getting 30 xp (I believe it killed the enemy cav). So you can get XP for defending, and different amounts for what you do in the combat.
