hunting runners

Hello, I was just wondering what the best setting should be for my Union ships in the blockade box hunting blockade runners. Should they be on attack? I assume so, but I'm not so sure. Any ideas?

Hi!
Posture and RoE is not used on the boxes so its better to have everybody on defensive as they will not lose cohesion every turn and will try to hunt the same.
On the way from the port to the boxes (normal sea regions) posture does matter, so you can put them on offensive then, in case they find some enemy ship on the way.
But once you are on the oxes, let them in defensive
Cheers

Yes.. you will see battles in the events occasionally and if a raider takes enough damage it will be sunk.

It is very rare. Usually the runner takes some/a lot of damage (not enough to sink). If you forget to move back to base, then the next time it is hit, it will sink. I have never sunk a runner, but have had mine sunk (I forgot to move it towards port after taking damage).

Probably you have, but as there is no "sunk ship" message, just to hits message one may easily miss enemy runners sinking. :)
I have certainly lost quite a few, of that i'm sure! :D

I tried a "rat catching" technique as USA. Park a small force in a sea zone that a damaged CSA raider is likely to take on its way back to port. After the raider takes a hit in the box and heads back, you may just force him into another battle along the way.

In a game I am hosting, I saw a ship sunk. The CSA side got the message the "xx" ship was sunk. I did not check the union side for a message. So you get a message if your ship is sunk (it doesn't stand out, and is easy to miss).
