... can't the button for promoting leaders not work per leader? In promoting a corps commander (who then went and lost a battle for a staggering -11 NM because he refused to retreat as ordered), I inadvertently promoted a bunch of utter unknowns in his stack too, each costing me about 25 VP for alienating the most senior in grade. I find it quite counter-intuitive that this button promotes everyone in a stack.

Of course, though it's easy to forget. I don't tend to remember whether non-entities like Wood become promotable. I think it would be more logical if the game engine would promote only the leader of a stack, not do series promotions. Thus you could always promote the commander, *without* taking him out of business for an entire fortnight, but would have to isolate subordinates to promote them.

This has become really annoying thanks to the fact that all leaders can now be promoted above their historical ranks.
It's a great feature in general but I don't know how many times I've been forced to make a choice between taking a corps out of the game for a turn or promoting 3 or 4 non-entities along with the commander.

Yes, this is an engine limitation. No promise but I will check if this is something which can be improved for ROP (and thus for ACW when a patch will be done for it).
