Having a heck of a time making my units both move at the same time and/or merge.

I click on the tab and then either L shift or ctrl, but they move seperately.!!!

Also, how do I merge units?

Units or forces?? i think you haven't grasped still some of the basic stuff on the game system and mix units and forces
Maybe doing carefully the tutorial again will help you

to merge 2 forces, drop one tab onto the other, and voilà!
