Is there any way to invest in industrializing New England? Or California? (I can't seem to highlight them on the Economics screen.)

Thanks, -D

I have only done limited testing but so far it doesn't look like there is any reason to invest in industrialization other than Railroads and River Transport for either the North or the South. My few tests show very little return to make up for the per turn costs of these. So far my attempts have had overall negative returns (the per cost was never matched by any significant increase in production).

If measured solely in returns of general and war supplies and ammo on ones industrialization investment, then I would agree that investment may not be necessary for the Union.

But, many on the forum have discussed industrialization in certain states to increase availability of and distribution of general supplies and ammo to critical theaters, particularly the West. Barksdale recently wrote that investing out west can be cheaper than building some depots.

If viewed in those terms, which I do, then I find industrialization in MO, KS, IL and KY a good investment up to a certain point. But it bears the risk of capital improvements falling into your opponent's hands - but that's war for you.

Industrializing, as the Federals, can be advantage in certain regions. Just to be clear you will still need depots, however, you may not need as many.

Five replies and only 1 person actually answered your question. Still better than getting a response from a politician (please tell me there are none of you guys on this forum). No, you can't industrialize California, New England, or any other of the OMBs. A game engine or database limitation, I suppose.

I've found large advantages in industrialization as the South, and enough as the North to make it worthwhile, though I never go very heavy. But getting supplies near the front reduces the rail and riverine you have to use, which saves you money elsewhere. It might even out in the short term, but long term, I think it's a pretty nice advantage.
