USA Generals/Armies Locking

Just started a game as the union and had my troops/commanders from DC move to various position in the region (Milroy to Harpers Ferry, Keyes to Mannassas) and then on one of the July turns both armies get locks all on them for a couple turns and can't move.

Any rhyme or reason for this?

Did I violate something that would lock them down?

Your Northeastern VA Army under McDowell starts out locked for 3 turns. This is to simulate the time needed to build up the army and to prevent antsy players and the AI from launching unrealistically underprepared strikes all over the map (I suppose). You said "both" though, and the army in the Shenandoah does not have the locks. What other army are you talking about?

Stacks I create with generals from DC and other unlocked troops/leaders that then I can move to locations in the region for a turn or so (not sure which), that then locked in whatever region they are in (be it out west if railed a general there, or in Manassas if I took a stack there)

Did you stack them with locked units/leaders?

You might also want to check your options menu to see if you have the inactive officers on. When this option is on the officers that fail the "activation roll" will acquire a lock & you can't do ANYTHING with them until the next turn (or more). This might be the cause of your problem.

Solowolf has probably given you the best answer though; the default settings do NOT have that option active. But it is a possibility though not a great one.

Nope, they all were active and moved several regions on turn A--then locked on turn B.

I railed one general from DC to Cincy--where he was totally alone 3/4 of the way there and he just locked in place.

Others stacks locked in other regions around DC after moving the turn or two before.

Will check settings for the inactive = lock thing.

Not for nothin', but there must be something you are not telling us.

If they are not merging with any locked or new (and thus locked) units or locked leaders, they are not inactive with that option selected and no one is getting wounded along the way and locked as a result, I don't know what to tell you.

You're sure they can't move and it's not just the 'locked' icon that a stack gets so you don't accidentally change it's composition? (i.e. merge it with another stack, etc.)

It sounds to me like the hard activation rule is on.

This was it.

Sorry for the confusion guys. Didn't realize that setting did that. Causes some issues for the Union though, that's for sure :)
