One-Brigade Generals

On mobilisation the CSA get a number of generals who can only command one brigade -- Holmes, Longstreet, Bonham etc.
Is there a way of getting them to command a full division?

They arrive in command of their historical brigades, but you can have them command a division once they are active (which I believe is in Late June 1861). You will need to separate them from their brigades, then click on the enable divisional command button. You will then be able to select the units you wish to put into that division.

Gray, I just started the KY April campaign and like it a lot. After 1.13b you spend most of 1861 jonesing for divisions. Good stuff.

To utilize these Generals (non-historically) in the manner you describe can be compared to just going ahead and giving Lee command of the Virginia army prior to Bull Run. A fantasy joke of the Civil War.

Gray - Yes, I do recall some posts regarding delaying division formation until Oct. 1861 in a future update. But from what I understood, you would still be able to create the division "stack", you just wouldn't receive the command bonus until Oct. So If I understand that correctly, you would still be able to organize your forces in divisions, but they would fight at a penalty until Oct. to more accurately reflect the chaos of the summer of 1861.

Is each side going to have their corps formations delayed or the division formations delayed?
I know that corps weren't used properly at the start of the war, in fact, all I can think of is Johnston's "army" during 1st Manassas...two incredibly oversized divisions, making Johnston technically a corps commander
. Severely limited tactical choices for engaging in many areas, but the spots where fighting was was centered towards the Confederate's advantage if the Union corps weren't nearby to support.

Thanks for clearing that up Gray, I think it's a great idea to tell you the truth, I just got back to this game after far too many college midterms and forms and I must say that I forgot nearly everything already and that's not saying much
.
I'm hoping to finally have this game under my fingers again by the 10th, I'm sure some painful deja vu will help press the learning curve a bit further like it did when I first started the game
.
Also, gotta love you guys for releasing these patches on a regular basis

Agreed GL and I look forward to the division formation update. But this is a PBEM game, no house rules... all's fair in the struggle for survival
