Retreating the wrong way?

So the Yankee invading hordes are besieging Island No. 10, with a strong naval force in the river. I send my local naval force upstream, expecting it to bolster the defense of the island and keep supplies flowing. They go into the Reelfoot Lake (?) river area where the Yankees are already present. I put them on defensive strategy, conservative stance. A battle ensues, in which the fort's guns don't seem to be participating, and at the end of the battle, which lasts one round, my ships retreat _upstream_, to the river area between Cairo IL and Missouri, seemingly bypassing both the USA navy and the fort guns at Cairo. Anybody understand how this happened?
Also, why did neither fort's guns (Is. no 10 or Cairo) attack?

I know that fort guns never appear in the battle resolution screen...but rather on the list of combat events that occurred during the turn. If they were not listed there in your game then I'm clueless as to why they did not take place in either engagement.
As far as where your fleet retreated. That is quite odd. I've never had that happen before...but I guess it's just a fluke??

Could it be because I controlled the harbors at Reel, MO and Oscealo, AR? The closest friendly port south was memphis, but none north, so who knows. It was also strange that the Cairo batteries didn't engage you.

Can anyone describe what the system's retreat logic is? It could be helpful when planning a campaign.
Thank you,

Check your Control&Retreat.opt file on
AGEod's American Civil War\ACW\Settings
Its explains the variables used for this.
Besides, put "Retreat Logic" on the forum Search and you will find quite a lot of threads with explanations about this
