I had a battle with my opponent in PBEM (I am reb):

Can somebody explain why I lost the battle ?

Union army was pretty well entrenched. I would imagine because u had quite a few men capured along with weapons. Never a good sign for victory if u have men and weapons captured.

It is a strange result indeed - you attacked an entrenched Union I understand? They lost more men and retreated, and you lost...

I think it might be due to you loosing an unit more then they did. In the morale lost/won calculation the number of units count strongly. It is (for morale purposes) worse to loose 3 regiments of 1000 men, then to loose 10000 men without a regiment being totally destoyed.

So I suspect that loosing 4 units against 3 being lost on the Union side results in a 1 morale loss on your side, which in turn leads to a lost battle (all other factors being almost even between the sides).
