Confused again. Invasion of Va. I'm sure I am.

Apparently the game doesn't recognise an invasion of Virginia as an invasion of Virginia.

The Union gets an event to push towards Richmond by August. The text seems to indicate that you need to invade Virginia.

So I did.

I took Manasas and sucessfully forced the Army of the Potomac into Fredricksburg.

But apparently that isn't enough as the text log states. I lose 10 NM and General Patterson.

Why? What do you have to do to stop this event firing? :bonk:

I don't recall the details, but I think you need to get something like 10 units (units, not elements) next to Richmond itself.

Isn't that next to impossible?

It isn't impossible (...in theory at least) ;)

In my last Union game I achieved doing that. I even took Richmond IIRC.

It's not impossible, but you need to be willing to lose some units doing it. You need to have 10 units in the 'CloseToRichmond' area for three turns. I believe it's late July through the end of August. I've done it using militia and cavalry, with extensive use of riverine/coastal transport for dodging.

So am I safe to assume that the default is that these events will fire unless you are willing to be a bit 'gamey' :neener: :D

edit: Is there some text file I can edit so that I can change the initial event to say that I have to 'seige' Richmond before the end of August rather than the way the text is now which only indicates implicitly an invasion of Virginia?

You don't have to actually siege Richmond. Having the required units on any surrounding area to Richmon's area is enough. Of course, having the units on Richmond itself is also valid, but more difficult still.
When i play the USA i always take the NM hit and continue my preparations at my own pace, ignoring the politics pressures... like McClellan :D

Aaaaah, adjacent to the province! I thought you meant adjacent to the city (i.e. in the province itself).

I see.

Aye.

Except that Hanover, VA doesn't count as adjacent, but pretty much everything else south of the Rappahanock as far as Petersburg does. Of course it's gamey. I have a reputation to maintain.
