Hi all,
I'm a new member and I'm playing my first PBEM.
My concern is to know how exactly Kentucky event works...
This event trigger after militia attack or I miss anything?
Thanks

I believe it's triggered against whichever side makes any offensive move in KY. Militia or regular, if you attack someone, it should trigger against you.

Thanks Spharv2, therefore if I assemble a lot of units on there this won't be a problem, right?
Same thing if I move some units around Kentucky (e.g. cut railroad network), the most important thing is don't attack anyone...

You can assemble forces, not positive on the cutting of rail lines. That event has caused an awful lot of confusion, just like the situation did in real life.

I don't think I've ever tried cutting rail lines, so I'm not sure it that'll trigger it. Don't think so, but I'd have to look at the event to be sure, and I can't do that at work.

I think that the key is not to attack anyone. Cut all the railroads that you want.

The key is to not be the first to take enemy held cities. Cutting rail lines wont trigger it. Fighting away from the cities won't trigger it. Massive buildups of troops in and around Kentucky can trigger related events with confusing messages and effects, but the main loyalty event is controlled by the ownership of the cities.

I *think* the trigger is when you attack certain enemy militia starting in Kentucky. I don't know which militia, and I don't know what exactly constitutes an "attack" in this context, though.

You know what's really sad is that we've had 4 (?) betas answer this thread, and most of what he's got was, "Well, I think it's like this..."
Thank goodness for Jabberwock coming through with a straight answer.

I don't know if the Boyd/Floyd thing has been fixed yet, so don't take either one. (Prestonburg or the region across the river from it)

It really pays not to be the first to attack in MO and KY too btw. The FOW makes a big diff for both offensive and defensive players.

I know this one true. Any damage on the starting KY militia, will fire the event for the defender. I have attacked and not destroyed the militia before and the state went to my opponent.

I'll pay attention to these info, I don't want that Kentucky secedes.

Why in Missouri also?

"Defender" can be defined pretty loosely for the purpose of this event from what I've just seen in my PBEM.
I was moving a stack of USA forces via river to reinforce Bowling Green, and they triggered the Kentucky Secedes event after a battle with some CSA troops who had moved into the territory before the US forces arrived.
I believe my troops had been set to defensive posture, but switched over to offensive due to the presence of the enemy.

Well, I think MO is triggered from the Lyons event. I just meant the FOW advantage is nice.

That is interesting, because I could have sworn it was only the 3 Union and 3 Confederate militia that caused the event to fire. Those 6 are locked at the start, so I doubt he could have had one in the attacking stack.
Just a side note. I do remember someone, I think it was Pocus, that had posted in one of the other KY event threads about a certain number of units would fire the event also.

Domewalker,
I read the same thing myself. I do not recall the numbers. Kentucky is like a scared cat sittin on a rail fence. It does not know which way to jump. So any action by eaither side may cause it to jump in the opposite direction. Makes for an interesting problem. Whoes gona scare the cat to jump. I think it best to leave it uncertain especial in a two player game. Why take the uncertain away.

I verified this. I sent a CSA militia to Louisville, got clobbered, and got the 'USA invades Kentucky' message. I
think the event is checking possession after a battle in one of the key locations, but not checking to see if possession actualy changed.
Not such a straight answer anymore.
