Hallelujah Moment

Anyone else have that ‘Hallelujah moment’ when you get Command Points and how the whole Division/Corp/Army thing works ?
That moment when you just know that moving this brigade on to a divisional stack not in a Corp will take it 2 CP over it’s commanders abilities until you click on the stack and add the brigade to the division because the Division has 2 commanders in it, outside of a corp and adding the brigade to the division will then drop the stack back to 4 CP’s.
And you just know that when you stick that division in a Corp attached to an army you can then move the 2nd commander out because the Divisional 1 star gets the full 4 CP’s.
If you have no idea what I am talking about, fear not little one, with training comes awareness, with awareness comes wisdom .
Sorry but it was real Zen moment when it all clicked.
Late May 61 as the South and I have a division of 10K men, with no CP penalties moving on Manassas. I love this game.
Now if I just could work out what all the different boats do

LOL, I know what you mean. It worked some what the same for me, except there was a bright shiny light and I heard the angels singing their praise. I'm glad it is all starting to click for you.
BTW, welcome to the forums and I hope you have as much fun as I do with one of the best games out there, for this time frame.

I've had the game for ages but am only starting to get into it now. I have Shelby Foote on audio on my ipod and it really helps bring to life the background to the war.

Oh yeah, I am going to have to try that one. That was a very interesting movie, I loved it.

We've got quite the theological spread here in praising this game!
It is a very palpable feeling of relief when it all 'clicks'. Glad you're enjoying it!

Does someone need a theologian?

I look forward to this moment.
It hasn't happened yet but I've only been playing for 2 weeks.

Hi!
Very funny thread!
For those who still "had not seen the light"

maybe checking this excellent AAR/Guide ltr 213 did will "open your eyes"

Its done for Napoleon Campaigns, but all the HQ, divisions, corps, CP, combat system... works 98% the same that in AACW.
All is explained with all detail... Highly recommended!
Cheers

Speaking of interesting movies, don't forget It's a Wonderful Life. I especially like that line at the end where the little girl says, "Teacher says that every time someone understands the CP system in AACW, an angel gets his wings."

I thought AACW would be a piece of cake after playing a full BoA PBEM game. My opponent and I started an AACW PBEM and I had to ask him if we could stop the game as I realised I didn't know what I was doing. A while after starting a new game we realised that he too didn't fully understand the unit hierarchy either (quite a long while :sourcil

.
We both had our ‘Hallelujah moment’. Once you get it it seems simple - but it's somehow difficult to explain.
Cheers, Chris

Be very careful with this stuff. Every time an attack is made at 35% penalty from CPs, a baby seal gets clubbed.

It was in the second year of my recent (and very first campaign!). It just clicks.

Still working for the "light bulb" to come on for me. I have been messing around with BOA, which seems too far of a step in simplicity (nonetheless an excellent game!).

My moment came when I was having problems and read a couple of posts on this forum. It was an "oh yeah that makes sense".

No angels or background music though....Darn it!
