i remember watching a old civil war themed movie on t.v. in the mid to late seventies when i was a kid, i need help to try and remember the name. if you can help me out that would be great!!!!

i only remember the end, which had a group of 'rag-tag' unionist soldiers and cowboys taking over a confederate fort somewhere in the southwest. i remember that the union boys snuck into the fort and turned their own gattling guns on them when they were in the center of the fort. needless to say they started mowing them(rebs) down and when they were trying to surrender one of the union guys kept firing and had to be shot down by his own commander.

anyone seen such a film???? its reeeeeeeellllllyyy bothering me cause i want to see it again for old times sake!

any help is much appreciated

Maybe "Siege at Red River," from 1954. I've never seen it, but it might be the movie you are thinking of.

Could it be one of Audie Murphy's films?
Don't think it is Rio Conchos as that was set in Mexico.

Still think it could be Rio Conchos.Know it was in the southwest and that it was just after the civil war and a bunch of disgruntled confederates were waiting for a stolen shipment of arms so they could continue the sruggle. Can't remember if there was a gatling gun in it though. From what I remember it was a pretty good movie.

you know, i couold have sworn it had either ernest borgnine or jack elam in it, but have checked through their profiles on IMDB and cant really find anything. regarding historical accuracy, i know thw rebs didnt have any gatling guns.....this is older probably very un-historical show. I just remember liking it from years ago and cant remember the name!!!!
damn.

edit: after looking it over i think it may be rio conchos after all, have to see if i can find it somewhere.

Are you thinking of the "North and South" miniseries?

Yes, Patrick Swayzee was in North and South but there was a mini series called The Blue and The Gray which starred Stacy Keach and Lloyd Bridges amongst its cast. Gregory Peck played Lincoln.

To be honest I preffered it to North and South but each to their own. :)

Uhm... :w00t: maybe there's a chance it could be "A reason to live, a reason to die", with James Coburn, Bud Spencer and Terry Savalas.
