We have included the following units in the game as "flavor" units: they all have some specific aspect / bonus / characteristics...

In order to update my scenarios, I'd like to know the location of each of them in 1862, 1863 and 1864 (let's say in March), provided of course they existed (i.e were created already or were not destroyed).

Orphan Brigade

Formed October 1861
March 1862 was part of Johnston's army at Bowling Green KY.

1862 campaigns and battles- Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, Baton Rouge, Stones River

March 1863 part of Breckenridge's division, army of the Tennessee at Tullahoma, TN.

1863 campaigns and battles- Vicksburg, Chickamauga, Chattanooga

March 1864- Walker's division, Army of the Tennessse, at Dalton, GA.

1864 campaigns and battles - Atlanta campaign (The brigade was converted to mounted infantry after the Fall of Atlanta), Sherman's March to the Sea, Savannah. Probably under Wheeler's command after the fall of Atlanta.

March 1865 - ? (At Augusta, Ga in early 1865) Fought in their last engagement at Stateburg, SC on April 29th. Surrendered on May 7th.

Gamecock Brigade:
8th, 18th, 19th, 28th, and 56th Virginia Infantry

1862:
03/62 starting location: Culpeper VA with the bulk of Joe Johnston's Army of Northern Virginia
Order of Battle: Part of Longstreet's "Wing" of the Army of Northern Virginia

03/63 starting location: Detatched to the Southern VA, NC area with Longstreet as part of the Suffolk Campaign.
Order of Battle: Part of Pickett's Division, I Corps, Army of Northern Virginia

03/64 starting location: Detached to Richmond (Someone please double check me on this one....I think this is where Pickett's whole division was...they did not rejoin the main army until before the Battle of Cold Harbor **)

** According to the Cold Harbor Order of Battle, the units are slightly different by now: 8th, 19th, 32nd, 56th, 25th Virginia Battalion (City Battalion), 42nd Virginia Cavalry Battalion

Pickett was given command of the dept of North Carolina on sept 23rd, 1863. His Headquarters was at Petersburg, Va. His division had not recovered enough to go with Longstreet to Georgia. He took part in the battles around Petersburg against Butler's Army of the James in may, 1864.

For fans of the movie "Gettysburg" the Gamecock brigade was led by Richard Garnett, the officer who had to ride a horse in the charge because of an injured leg.

Its not on the list, but you should really think about adding the "Texas" Brigade...one of the absolute best units in either army:

Texas Brigade:
Early 1862 through Antietam: 1st, 4th, 5th Texas, 18 Georgia, Hampton Legion (SC)
Fredricksburg through end of war: 1st, 4th, 5th Texas, 3rd Arkansas

1862:

The Texas brigade was at Dumfries Va in feb 1862 and was probably still there in March.

In March 1864 it was still in winter quarters at Greenville, TN. Longstreet had not yet rejoined the Army of Northern Virginia.

Are you sure you want the European Brigade in the game? From what little I have found it was formed in feb 1862 and disbanded in may 1862 and never saw combat.

Tramp Brigade

Formed in July 1862 at Charleston SC

I was unable to determine when it was first called the Tramp Brigade.

The Texas Brigade was formed in October 1861 at Dumfries VA.

John B. Hood was the original commander of The Texas Brigade.

Blanket Brigade:

As best as I can tell, this nickname was for a single regiment (16th Maine), not a "real" brigade. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this). As a result, for the purposes of this game (brigade level units), if you want to be 100% historically accurate, you should probably not use the term "Blanket Brigade" in relation to the 16th Maine's brigade.

(I suppose you could always incorporate it as part of the regiment name)
On the other hand, if you want to take a little "poetic license" for game purposes, who am I to tell you not to do it.....

Philadelphia Brigade / California Brigade:

Interesting unit....All regiments were recruited from Philadelphia but were designated the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th California (formed and originally commanded by Oregon Senator Edward Baker). After the Battle of Ball's Bluff in Octorber 1861, Pennsylvania claimed the regiments and renamed them the 69th, 71st, 72nd, and 106th PA. (So I guess for the purpose of this game, for all scenarios after 10/61, the brigade should be known as the "Philadelphia Brigade")

Falmouth and Culpeper seem to be correct for 1863 AND 1864. iN 1862 The brigade was at Haper's Ferry on March 1st and was part of Sedgewick's Division in the AOTP. When the army was reorganized later in the month it became the 2ns brigade, 2nd Div, II corps.

I have the locations of the entire POTP at the beginning of March 1862 along with their strength and numbers of guns if you want me to post it.

On march 1st it was part of Hooker's Division/Army of the Potomac. It's location is given as Lower Potomac Maryland. That's not a town so it was most likely southeast of Washington DC on the Maryland side of the Potomac. On the 8th Lincoln ordered the reorganization of the army and corps were formed.

The I Corps was reorganized out of the Army of the Potomac in March of 1864, so depending on when you start the 1864 scenario, you may want to adjust the order of battle. The old I Corps units went into two divisions in the V Corps.
