Civil War Maps Placed on the Internet

By CARL HARTMAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Civil War buffs are getting access to a treasure trove of information — thousands of original maps and diagrams of battles and campaigns between 1861 and 1865, all posted on the Internet.

The Library of Congress (news - web sites) is posting 2,240 maps and charts and 76 atlases and sketchbooks, while The Virginia Historical Society and the Library of Virginia are adding about 600 items. Much of the collection is online now; the rest will be by the spring.

The items depict troop positions and movements, as well as fortifications. There also are reconnaissance maps, sketches and coastal charts and theater-of-war maps.

All of them great links :coeurs: . Library of congress has most of it and I find it as a best resource for ACW maps.
Ofcourse, after you buy the game you will get another great and accurate map of whole USA :niark:

The game map is inaccurate in several aspects.

Best source for maps of ACW times is the Official Atlas made to accompany the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion, and this huge and heavy book can be found at a fairly cheap price.

With this wonderful book, a person does not have to deal with the nuances of th inet because the info. is there in solid form in the Atlas.

Cheers, Chris

AMEN BROTHER!!!

The Atlas RULZ. You can see exactly where everysingle road in america was. I can vouch for that personally as I used that book to locate a civil war homestead where I used a metal detector and discovered all kinds of loot!
