Just heard this news story:

While digging near a Burger King in Franklin, TN, the body of a Civil War Soldier was uncovered. The remains of the soldier were found scattered in a shallow grave. Curators and historians arrived at the location to analyze the body. Bones and well-preserved buttons were uncovered from the site. The body will be removed to a lab and then reburied. The soldier was given all honors due, included being flag-draped.

Civil war remains are getting rarer but they still turn up. WWI and WWII remains are being found all the time (along with assorted bits of sometimes still lethal hardware).

The Civil War was the first war in which the US government made an effort to collect and identify the remains of American soldiers. Check out Drew Gilpin Faust _This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War_. Very interesting cultural history.
