I must confess, I never completly got over UFO 1.
I spent hours on this tactical game, wonderfull mix of tactical RPG and strategical base management...
"UFO 2: Terror from the deep" never really caught me. Recently, I bought "UFO: Aftermath" (only 6€), and I did not the feel the thrill neither (to say the least).
Only Jagged Alliance brought me as much fun as UFO...
What would be your advice for a recent game which could match with UFO?

Thanks for the tip!
However I'm unclear if this game is at playable beta phase or just in development?

Does this UFO work? Is it playable? Are there any changes?
Loved the game and I have both Amiga and PC-Dos versions, never had time to finish it though.

I play from time to time X-Com apocalypse. Sure the graphics are difficult to read, but it is still enjoyable.

Oh my, I remember having passed endless hours on UFO1 ! Never get caught with the 2, maybe because it was more of the same but underwater, which led to strange effects..
I still have XCOM Apocalypse also, the 3rd game, which was very fun too, I remember my raids on some alien-lovers sect which was a real cash cow
!
Didn't try the latest reincarnations under UFO franchise since then, reviews were very bad....

Just a question: is X-Com Apocalypse compatable with XP?
Regarding UFO: Aftermath and Afterschock, those games are so crappy that I am still wondering why I have purchased them...

I don't know, didn't reinstall it since I installed XP. I think it was a W95 game though, so compatibility mode *maybe* works

I did reinstall XCOM-Apoc under XP, and well, now it works, but it's quite a chore to get it working - It was a DOS game vaguely W95-compatible, and doesn"t work at all under XP and neither under DosBox !
All instructions and patches/tools are here :
http://www.xcomufo.com/x3dl.htmlThe site also offers files and patches for the other UFO games.

I get X-Com Collector's Edition and IIRC it was working perfectly under Win98 SE at least for Apocalypse. Don't remember for the first two sequel, probably not...
I currently need to find another way making this game work as I was using a dual boot (XP/Win98SE) with two hard drive (NTFS/FAT32). Unfortunately my FAT32 hard disk crashed and have not proceeded to its replacement yet.
BTW thanks for the link, it should resolve my dilemna even though I'm not an IT specialist...

Pumba,
There's also some small XP compatibility problems with the UFO1/2 Gold (graphics, timer going too fast...), but there're fixes on the same site - just simple dll/exe files to replace. It's just Apoc which is weird ant totally XP-unfriendly

Me too, I enjoyed soooo much UFO that I'm still looking for a similar experience. OMG, discovering those aliens practices on earth was freaky
I also finished Terror from the Deep after a while, which was not that bad (although a bit disapointing since it was the same engine, very slightly enhanced with the exact same mechanics).
Apocalypse bored me, I don't know why.
The only game that got close to UFO (and better in some ways) is Jagged Alliance 2. I've also got the expansion Unfinished Business. I should try the latest version of JA2 which is said to be tougher.
