Only three? I voted for the AI, game scope and game play because I think they are the key to a good game and AGEOD does them all especially well. BUT, I would have gladly added the interface and artwork - areas where AGEOD games equally excel.

Yes only 3! all of the above is reasons i love your games, so hard to choose - I love your dedication to the gamers with feedback and patches, but had to not select it because how could you not select the AI, depth and gamedesign!

The 3 primary reasons yes. Just ask yourself what are they if you were to buy a new ageod game. It is hard to decide I know!

Ok, I edited and you can now choose 6 options and not 3 from the 12. For whose who want to edit their votes and add some new choices, send me a PM

For me, the most important aspect is the turn-based WEGO system. There is no reason to use any other system with a computer. Turns are much more tense and realistic when both sides have to try to out guess their opponents plans. Second is the dedication of the Devs to their games. So many Devs seem to think that once a game goes out the door, their work is done and they are doing their customers a major favor to release one patch. AGEOD shows a commitment to continuously improving their games that is a breath of fresh air. I also am very pleased with the subject of the games so far and those that have been announced. Just keep doing what you have been doing and I am sure you will enjoy continued successs.

I love strategy games and this is my main motivation...now what is important to me in a good strategy game (as voted):
- An AI that can beat me (as i play only solo...see other thread)
- An historical interesting period (i almost didn't bought BoA because of the theme)
- Support...there's nothing more sad than a good game which is bug-ridden.
- The Scope...the bigger the map, the more strategic options
- The mechanics of Ageod's games are superb as well as the strategic deepth...easy to get into but hard to master...
Cheers

About the number of campaigns, I almost allways in any strategy game play the grand campaign and nothing else, so number of scenarios is at the bottom of my list.

I voted for just one: gameplay. While there are many others which are great, IMHO the gameplay is what makes for the greatest distance between BOA/AACW and other games. The "feel" is so true to the period that the decisions one makes creates a suspension of disbelief and puts you there. It's a game where I don't feel like I'm pushing around generic counters where games are only distinguished by unit type and density. The problems and decisions make it more a sim than a game.
It was close between that and the UI which is the other huge advance AGEOD have made to wargames.

I second this, especially the WEGO system, also cuts out most of the exploits as well.

Why can't I vote for quality of service six times?
I believe this is a bug that Pocus and Kerrigan should focus all their attention on.

I actually needed 10 choices. The first 10. Notice the emphasis on quality of service. Ageod is indeed number 1 in my opinion.

The most valuable asset in an AGEOD game is the recognition by the people who make it that it is more than the sum total of a bunch of dry data with an interface, that producing a game is as much an art as science, and that the games are animated by the enthusiasm and care that obviously went in to making them. I don't play AACW, I get involved in a story that AGEOD is telling through the game, and I get to help write it.
Wrap that up in an attitude that encourages and listens to the boisterous input of gamers rather than rejecting criticism as an attack on their labor and vision, and we have a winner. With that kind of product an attitude, the other items on the poll fall in to place naturally.

I chose 6 but want to just focus on a few.
It can't be said enough what a breath of fresh air the support has been. I don't have to hold my breath, cross my fingers and stand on 1 leg hoping that a patch will be released in 4-6 months that may or may not fix the major problems. What a change it is to have the majority of bugs fixed in days or weeks at most. I can count on two fingers the companies that provide such support.
Also, great A. I. and gameplay/gamedesign.
AACW has finally allowed me to retire Frank Hunter's civil war game.
BoA has replaced Liberty or Death for my super nintendo. ( Liberty or Death became really easy on the strategic level, but the tactical battles were really something.)
I look foward to Napoleon's Campaigns. L'Empereur for my original nintendo is still one of the best strategy games EVER!

Pfew, frustating exercise, I would have put at least 6 choices, plus some that aren't available (such as : "because I've invested money in it", "to save Pocus from begging in the street", or "because Sandra was there" )

You can choose 6 options now.
Preference list with a few explanations

My first inclination was to focus on what I find most enjoyable about AACW but will be boringly pragmatic instead.
1 The historical setups and data - Must be potentially interesting to me(didn't buy BOA because the period doesn't interest me).If you don't buy the game the rest of these issues are irrelevant. I'll be buying the Napoleon game because the period is interesting and I like the AGEOD gamedesign.
2 The user interface (ease of use, tooltips, drag&drop etc.) What good is the game if the interface is too complicated to master or simply unworkable. This makes or breaks a game for to reach the fun of the gameplay/ design you have to get past this hurdle. If this is well done the player isn't even aware of it; he is focussed on playing the game.
3 The gameplay/gamedesign (rules mechanic and how they are fit to the period); the WEGO system is subsumed within this as it is simply another gamedesign decision. The strategic depth and 'physical' scope of the game are also just design decisions, enjoyable as they are. The Feel of the game, the fun lies here.
4 The AI - I only play against the AI; if its no good there isn't a game to play.
5 The quality of service (frequent upgrades/patch, support availability, forum mood, etc.) I really appreciate the constant improvements and tweaking to make a game better but this follows the implementation of a good game. You don't buy a game because of the service - you wouldn't buy a car that broke down 6 days in 7 no matter how wonderful the servicing of it. However, AGEOD's service certainly makes what is good, excellent.

Even though I did not choose price in the survey, I must say that the reasonable price made me more willing to take a chance on BoA in the first place. Now that I have experience with this company I may be willing to pay a bit more but keep in mind your ability to attract new players. The high price that Matrix charges for COTA and the SSG games has caused me to balk sometimes. There is a sweet spot in there somewhere- for me I think it is around $40 for a download PC game.
(PS - I can certainly afford these games but I am a thrifty SOB (my wife would say cheap)

Sheesh....you want our favorite reason we like AGEOD's games?? I guess if I had to choose one, it would not be the graphics. That is second cuz I think you guys do sucha helluva job with graphics. I think when you boil all the other fat away, I hafta agree with Sol Invictus and say that most important to me is the Wego system. Why? Cuz I like PBEM. And this just seems to be more realistic than the traditional Igo Hugo. I liked it with Combat Mission, and I like it with your more strategic level games. But, it is sucha hard choice cuz I love the interface. I love your dedication to getting the historicity right. I love the attention to detail with regard to supply and logistics (the movement and transportation of supply). The affects of entrenching and terrain. The whole thing. But most of all, I like the fact that it is simultaneous resolution.

'Quality of Service' was and is huge for me - I'm glad it was an option.
I would like to see 'Game Potential via Updates' as an option, but it is a little late for that, unless you restart the poll. You see, I think from what I've seen that AGEod has vast potential in their games, not just as they come out when first published, but in that they make strong improvements and corrections to the game, whereas I am not going to say I see other developers doing it that much. At least not features that move the game forward strongly. And, of all things, I feel the potential for the AI is terrific.
So that is why I think "Game Potential via Updates' is valid and a good choice.

I voted in order of importance:
1) The strategic depth
2)The gameplay/gamedesign
3)The quality of service
Reasons: abducted by 1)
Seduced by 2)
Enthusiast of 3)
Looks like by that 90% you're doing an outstanding job on the boards, Pocus

what i love is....

I don't take the excellent support for granted - its truly fabulous.
BUT for me without the great game there'd be no need for the support.
So what makes your games really really really GOOD in my opinion is the beautiful art work, the depth of the games and the way you force me to make careful and choices between the options available.
The fact that you don't do WW2 (yet) is really great as well. I love having to think through the strategic problems produced by smaller but historically important wars.

My reasons for buying Your games (in no particular order except one):
- The arts and graphics: simply beautiful...
- The AI: far from being perfect, but already waay ahead of the AI of most other games and still improving :top:
- Because this is a turn based, simultaneous engine: The perfect solution for me, I'm much too old for real-time clickfests

-
The strategic depth ("easy to learn, hard to master"): At last one company that is NOT dead set on "dumbing down" their games to appeal to the "ooooh shiiiiiny" crowd
and, last on the list but first in my heart

:
- The quality of service (frequent upgrades/patch, support availability, forum mood, etc.): Where to begin? Outstanding upgrade-patching policy, when reporting a bug or issueing a complaint by E-mail
* You get a reply by Pocus or PT himself almost immediately, and there are lots of VERY knowledgeable and really helpful nice people in the community. You gotta love that, too!
*My original copy of AACW got somehow lost in the mail and I had a really nice e-mail correspondence with PT about it, who apparantly went himself to the mail office to send me a replacement by certified mail. That made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, I never had such a feeling of being "personally supported" in any dealings with any other company before, seriously...

I expect a bunch of us here were born too old for such things.

That is just incredible. I don't know how I can adequately express how happy I am with AGEod. There are, and have been, so many game companies that had no concept of the term 'service'. I have am absolutely sold on this company. They are giants in a field of.... field mice.

I think this poll proves that the Vainglory focus should just be on the grand campaign and not wasting time doing loads of diffferent scenarios.
