ROP. About the same complexity, new features ( even if most will be soon retrofitted to AACW).

If you are running Window 7 AACW may not run. I have Rop and it runs on Window 7 64 bit. It really depends on the time period that you prefer.

I run AACW on my new computer, Window 7 64 bit machine. No problems for any Ageod games. I have WW1 but have not tried it on my machine yet.

I would agree that it depends on the time period you are most interested in. I've not yet purchased ROP, so I guess I ought not even say, but if AACW does indeed get retrofitted, there would be no comparison to my mind. I' have been playing this game since its release over 3 years ago and it just doesn't get old ... but then, I love the period.

As an aside, I have the game running on Windows 7 32-bit on my desktop, and on Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. No issues at all!!

Really !?? :thumbsup:
I thought 1.15 was the final AACW version... :confused:

...sorry for this small hijack ;)
As to the OP question, I have both AACW and RoP, but have not played RoP yet, so I can not give a fair advice. I guess you could try AACW first (you can find it at bargain prices). I can assure you you will not get disappointed, it's a great game !!

i can't help but notice that you did not mention the detailed combat report... :blink: :w00t:
It would be so cool having it in AACW! :coeurs: :coeurs:

So... what, if anything, is planned to be retrofitted to AACW ? AI ? Officially or via Clovis's mod ??

I don't care of interface. ;)

What you should get is some bug fixes and general AI enhancements by the AACW.exe.

Great and unexpected news !! :thumbsup: :coeurs:

PS: And no, I am not expecting or, even less, asking, for any "official" database changes, that's something that got "solved" in the past ;)

PPS: Sorry for this hijacking of RoP, but this is GREAT news !

To me at least they are unexpected precisely in view of Pocus 's statement that you transcribed. The few bugs in 1.15 are hardly "game-breaking" IMHO and further game engine enhancements beyond bugs are really amazing. Not forgetting of course that the improvements AACW had up until 1.15 was nothing short of phenomenal.
Pocus is GREAT ! :gardavou:

(PS: As to the "legions" of modders ;) : I never thought they existed, nor did I cared a bit about it. The only AACW "mods" are Clovis's SVF, and, in the past, Nikel's portraits and runyan's (where is he, BTW ?) general's mod. Nothing else. When I said "solved" I mean that I know it was "officially" decided to NOT do any more improvements in the database. IMHO, only if you, as modder, in the future would care to make further changes in it will we see some meaningful changes in that area.)

Regards

AACW or ROP ? : (for a newbee, initial post)

Finally I bought ROP, downloaded yesterday.

The choice was not obvious for me: AACW seems very attractive (with this its economics layer), as well as WIA (theater context)
Before choosing, I download wia,aacw,rop demos and the manuals .
I read some threads in the forums and also in the french and spanish sub-forums (quartier general and cuartel general ) to not be inflenced by the "national" interest of the players.

my first impression was:

Manuals:
ROP + : seems more up to date and detailled for ROP.

Tutorials:
ROP : ++ (very good ! )
AACW : +.
WIA : - . ( short !!!)

Chain of command:
ROP and AACW: +.
WIA : -

Economic layer in the game:
AACW: ++.
ROP :+.
WIA: -.

Detailled battle report:
ROP ++ : perhaps the reason of my choice.

learning curve for a newbee (to start, not to master !!!):
WIA : ++,
ROP : +
AACW: more time consuming.

learning historic context (for me):
AACW : - ( not a new one, a lot of movies , tv series , etc..).
ROP: :+ ( the "first world war", of the 18 century, but not very known)
WIA : ++ (with indians, english, french, usa ... , on large territories , very attractive )

threads in the french, english and spanish forums:
AACW: ++
WIA: +.

and finally "Clovis advice" :
ROP.

----------------
it was a tentation to start buying the THREE games after reading forum threads !!! and yours posts , but I decided ... not having three heads and three laptops ... to start with the newest one, id est ROP.

-----------------
THANKS everybody for yours advices.

And in the next weeks, ROP playing value will be certainly enhanced against AI.
