even me who is by far not a soccer fan enjoyed that France won... I think this was because the Spanish fans mocked that Zidane would fail his last match

Vindaloo is a spicy Indian curry dish...and it rhymes well with "we're gonna score one more than you!"

Ok, but why the English team is so often associated with Vindaloo?


Now France moves to semi-finals. That will teach me about unpatriotic. Still, I feel uneasy as for the first time France would be considered as favourite against Portugal...

Still, I said from the first game that France had a real potential, and should not be judged after the match against Switzerland, as the swiss players have playing against les bleus in the recent monthes more than any other team in the world!.

Meanwhile, I had great fun watching this heavily criticised side defeats one after another its much apprised opponents!

Good question...i really never got that song, but it is catchy. Pehaps an English person could explain.

Although I am not English, I do live in the UK. 'Vindaloo' was the English football anthem for the 1998 world cup. Past world cup anthems are part of the English supporter's song collection. The song uses vindaloo, a very hot Indian curry, as a reference to the average football supporter.

On match day, you meet your mates in a pub for as many pints of lager as you can get down your throat before the game starts as there is no drink at the game. At half time you eat meat pies and drink tea. After the game, it is back in the pub to celebrate or commiserate. When the pubs close, you think about getting something to eat. The only restaurants open that late are Chinese or Indian and as you are full of drink a curry is the only thing and Vindaloo being the hottest on the menu, is the curry of choice. A good day has been had by one and all.

The fact that 'vindaloo' rhymes with 'scores one more than you' is useful for another football reference.

Now that ARgentina is out... i will only rout for Italy.
