GNW. Cossacks recruitment

In the recruitment mode a cossack cavalry regiment is shown among the infantry units.
Besides, they seem to be created everywhere in the tsardom. The regions should be restricted, I guess, to where there were cossacks.
Where was it in 1700?

There is a map in Osprey monograph on the cossacks by Seaton, if there is interest, with the cossack areas in times of Peter the Great.

Yes and No...the main cossacks areas were outside of the Russian Czardom in 1700...and this is reflected in the game map (southern Ukraine south of Dnepr mostly)...when Peter asked for cossack sotnias, they usually showed up at some Russian location up north after a while...the recruitment in the game reflects that.
What was important for the Cossacks was the fact they were used to fight against 'non-natural' enemies (i.e. fight Swedes isntead of Turks) and they deeply resented it... this is also reflected in the game by events.
We could restrict raising Cossacks only in southern cities but this would mean manipulating their stacks to move them northward, a tidy and cumbersome extra task for players...
so current situation is a simplification

OK, but is not historical.
Will post the map anyway later today.

I think cossacks should be moved to cavalry but retain their recruitment area.

Here is the map, A. Seaton.
The Cossacks. Osprey.

In RUS there were also Kuban Cossacks (still ottoman territory in WSS), and Orenburg Cossacks.
Note that in the game you are allowed to recruit cossacks units as north as Novaia Ladoga.

This is the look of modern cossacks, not changed too much
