Battle planner choices?

So does anyone have any insight as to what is the difference between battle planner choices? When is it better to have a single line, when is it better to have a double line, and so on? Whenever I ask AI for help, it always seems to default to strong center infantry assault, single line.

I do not play using Battle Planner very much as I am usually in pbem where this is not available, but . . .

Most important is the decision your opponent has made. So you are searching, in this case, for the best deployment versus a strong center infantry assault. It is a bit rocks, paper, scissors.

But it depends upon how you have organized your forces. Good balanced leaders and forces or kind of loose organization.
I suggest this, use the go back feature on the load game menu when you have a game with at least three leaders. Shuffle the way you have your forces arrange with regard to command, subordination and such. Watch the differences. Of course remember that because of the random factor in every battle you need to play each formation a couple of times to get a norm.

Until the informations are shown in the tooltips, your only recourse would be to peruse into the battle plans descriptions files; Or have someone makes a nice PDF of them ;)

I think its a case of working out the overall situation and then how the different plans work. So if I hugely outnumber my opponent, I'll pick as aggressive a plan as I can find, preferably one that brings the most elements to combat. If its even, but I have an advantage in one aspect (inf/cav/art), I'll try to work on that. Others seem better if you have stumbled into a battle you now don't want to fight.

Finally some just seem riskier, win big/lose big. If I feel I can gamble (or need to redeem the wider situation), then I'll snag one of these.
