Ok. Downloaded the beta and started the game. More exceptions on turn 1. This game is unplayable. Where do I request a refund?

Looks to me like you are having Windows issues. With Window 7 through 10 you ought to install the game using administrative rights.
You then must run the game with administrative rights, otherwise when the game accesses certain routines, you get a crash.

Obviously it was installed as Admin, but I'm not going to play video games as Administrator. You might as well tell me I have to watch my porn at work.
If the game will only run as Admin, I want to return it for a refund. No one should be expected to run software as admin unless it actually administrates their PC.

Actually not so obviously. You clearly are familiar with Windows pre-Windows 7. Post 7 you are not the default admin (not as in XP admin but as XP user). And no, no programs install now with administrative rights. They install, but they do not install all the features unless you select install as admin. The term admin now means primary user in the old language.
It is easy to do, just right click and select run as admin.
Windows 7 does not allow normal game routines, such as accessing files, to function unless you select run as admin. It is a different concept from what being and administrator used to mean. I should kind of know as I ran a small network.

Running admin gives the same rights as being admin. You should have to do neither to run a video game, especially one that takes 5 minutes between turns where you'd want your browser up. Permissions are there for a reason. Have been for decades.

Furthermore, the game still throws the same exceptions when running as Admin. It is unplayable.

I understand you do not want to hear what I am saying. This error is the error you get when you are not running the game as an administrator. The game needs write access rights to function. You likely see this in the error message itself. Maybe??

The game has write access to every directory in the machine. Do you not see the picture above? Does it need write access to my machine across the hall or what?
I am logged in as administrator, the game is running as administrator, I've got administrator everywhere. It simply does not run.

Send me the symbol files and I'll even show you why...well at least one reason why.

First thing you should do is uninstall the game, make sure your registry is clear, then reinstall to anywhere other than program files x86 directory.
Never install any games there. Ever.
I, for example, partition my hard drive to have a d:\ drive where I put all of my games.

Yea did that already, in 4 different places, still doesn't work.
Original was C:\Games\

In all other locations, it doesn't even make it past turn 1. At least in C:\Program Files(x86), it made it to turn 2....
I'm fairly certain it has zero to do with permissions or location. As process explorer showed, it has access to any directory it likes. Furthermore, although I am not that good at French or whatever language it is in, I am fairly certain that a good amount of the exceptions read "invalid index" followed by "access violation", which, as a C++ developer myself, I am familiar with.

I really just want a refund. No one should have to troubleshoot a video game for a week just to get it to start. The product is obviously in dire need of some tender loving Q&A and I've already got a job. When I come home I want to relax, not fix more problems.

I'm asking here and I also wrote support an email. Please direct me to the nearest refund. I did not receive a working product. I feel quite ripped off, in fact.
I'm a reasonable person. If it was even semi playable for me, I'd just wait patiently for patches. As it stands, I paid $40 for a 30 second for a splash screen. If they refund my money, I'd be happy to revisit it in 6 months to a year or try one of their other titles. If not, it'll be another game developer on my "you know better" list and I'll do my best to let everyone know about my experience. It isn't right to take someone's money for software that doesn't even run.

Really sorry about these issues. Believe me or not, it is very rare to have people suffering from them. I understand you already contacted the Helpdesk but that you now prefer refunding. To get your refund request processed, you need to send an email to support@slitherine.co.uk with the order details (order reference number and email, used for placing the order).

Installing a game as administrator is risky but acceptable. {Installing the game as admin gives the install program complete access to your PC and the game can install a root kit if it wanted. Ask people that played Sony CD's on their machines and gave the program permission to run as admin} Running a game as Administrator is a horrible security risk.

Having said that, I have a windows 10 PC. I installed it as Admin. I don't have to run it under admin and it runs.
