French-Spanish?

I decided to let things stand in the Spanish succession line and a few turns latter Madrid becomes French Spanish and an ally of England. Spanish moral goes to five, even the tool tip on the decree I chose it would rise.

I also noted some really weird quirks by the Spanish. Playing as the French in a Grand Campaign, the Spanish were badly battered (at sea mostly) by the British AI which seems to concentrate on taking Spain out. The British AI does a good job by maintaining the blockade of the Spanish coast and intercepting Spain's dispersed fleet.

So after about a year of battering, Spain concludes peace and lo and behold, the British obtain Madrid as a satellite state named Franco Spanish. When I (as the French) tried to snuff it out and return Madrid to Spain, it just remained occupied territory of the French.

Fast forward a few years, to 1809 and had the Spanish chain of events firing. Joseph was installed as king, somehow I made peace with him (and by event he became an ally even though at still war), and invaded Spain. However, the land did not revert to the Franco-Spanish but remained French occupied.

So is it possible to

a) not allow Spain to give away Madrid to the British as war booty - maybe give Minorca or some colony
b) how is the Franco-Spanish event chain supposed to work?

Finally, is there something wrong with expeditionary forces with the latest patch? I haven't been able to get one from anywhere (though AI seems to do so)

There seems to be an issue with some nations that should NOT be creatable by others...I believe there must be some changes made in the initial setups to allow this

We shall investigate this differently and work a fix in the diplomatic engine and some scripts so that French Satellite nations can only be created by France, and no one else (which is what happened here)

Experienced the same. Playing several campaigns as France in 1806 every time the French-Spanish emerged, joined the coalition as a satellite of Britain and Napoleon fights Joseph
... you can not even make peace because it is a satellite :bonk:

The best 'fix' at this point is that invade Spain proper (break treaty and so forth) and then lo and behold, Joseph Bonaparte emerges as a fixed unit with guards in Madrid as your ally.

Thanks, that work around sounds playable, while not historical I believe that most of the problems with this game are linked to historical events.

When Spain looses against Britain, Britain creates French-Spanish as satellite (happened always in 1806). I hate this :p leure:, so I now always support Spain early as possible in 1805 with a few Corps, take Gibraltar and everything is allright. (only drawback: my wounded french generals appear on the african side of the Strait and have no Chance to come back:bonk :)
