I got lucky that the Spanish Transport Fleet attacked my British Fleet. The only question is why would the AI put that fleet on offensive posture?

Because there is no leader.

I thought if a stack did not have a leader it would always be active (but fight with a malus). But a leaderless stack is always on offensive posture?
