It seems that you have an option to at least partially control Allied Forces. If you do not desire to do this, will the AI continue control of your allied forces without your input or is your input necessary? Thanks.

Athena always manages all factions not being managed by a player.
You don't control allied forces, but some of your allies can lend you stacks, which you can then use to fight. Generally you have to ask for them. Look under Treaties.

Hmmm...okay, thanks. I noticed that as the Austrians though, I was able to manipulate all Prussian stacks ordering them to move, combining them etc...though it didn't seem that I could use all functions, it did seem I had partial control...I have a defensive treaty with them....

Try the TAB key to tell them where to go. You can manipulate them but that's only to view them, they won't take orders directly.

Regarding the preselection of forces to be lent, it seems one can click this in the management tab of allied troops, but I suppose it doesn't have any impact on which actual forces / fleet they lend you when you ask for an expeditionary force or fleet right ?
