After installing and reinstalling an obscenely stupid number of times I've finally woken up to the fact that the Quickfix 1.04 can only be installed over the original 1.04.

e.g. (with thanks to Edward75)
Installed game
Patch 1.03
Patch 1.04
QuickFix

My problem now is that I can't locate the original 1.04 patch at all. Any directions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry - disregard the preceding. Found it tucked away in a save file. Not just stupid any more; also embarrassed.

Follow-up question however. I've extracted the 1.04 and Quickfix into the EAW folder of my installation and run both. When firing up the game, though, it identifies itself as the 1.03 version - what have I done wrong or not done at all?

You did not install it/them in the proper folder.

If you open the quickfix you will see a file named System.opt in the folder "EAW\Settings".

One of the lines is:



That is what should appear in the game while it is loading, if the patch is properly installed.

Thanks Nik. I only have the one EAW folder these days so I'm going to have to figure out where and how I'm misdirecting the installation. Trial and error - or error and trial in my case. I'm sure it must be good for my. character.

I'm afraid this installation discipline is just too much for a bear of little brain to cope with. Could I walk you through my process so that you might identify what I'm doing wrong?

Hoping that the answer is "yes", this is how I roll.

PC > Documents > My Games > To End All Wars > EAW
This gives me a display of folders titled Events, GameData, Logs, Saves, Scens, Scripts, Settings
Following this I've placed the Patch_EAW_v1.04_public patch
When I attempt to run it I'm asked to select my installation destination.
I respond with C:\Documents\My Games\To End All Wars\EAW and hit continue.
The machine does its job and informs me that Setup has finished installing "to End all Wars" on my computer and advises me to click "Finish".
I note the use of lower case but assume it's of no consequence and comply.
I hit my on-screen shortcut (calling itself "To End All Wars (Game Menu))
It responds by displaying a "To End All Wars breaking the deadlock" entry screen.
I hit "Play To End All Wars".
Things whir and in the bottom right-hand corner is displayed "EAW 1.03 (May 26 2015).

Epimindonas -- did you ever get an answer? Is that the correct process (before I go through the character development stages you've been through.) Thanks.

I did, smitty, and the consequences of it are rolled out in my later "Okay, I surrender" post. Thanks to Nikel, I found three big takeaways from all of the to-ing and fro-ing.

First, the various updates are cumulative so you don't have to work through them sequentially - the 1.04 is all you need.
Second, when that's installed the startup display doesn't list the update as 1.04 but as 1.04 (Beta Patch 1.03 - May 2019).
Finally, when the Quickfix is then installed there is no change to that startup reference.

Hope that helps clarify the process for you.
