How to tell when a general/leader dies

I hope this has not been asked. I did multiple searches for general dying, general death, leader killed, etc.....I read up on a lot of info, but I am curious how do you know when a general dies? What is the graphics? I know if a unit is wiped out there is a line through it. Is it the same for leaders/ Thanks

What I do is first search using the W key as this cycles through a locked units, the typical status of a wounded leader. Then if I do not see the general on this search I look at the command screen (f1).
For the most part you do not get a leader report in the ledger is a leader is killed or in the battle display, but cycling through all locked units will usually uncover where your leader resides.
