An answer to an earlier question on minefields indicated that they could not be swept. A natural corollary to this would seem to be that they are indestructible and that even if Germany held the entire coastline of the Gulf of Riga, say, the starting Russian minefields would remain. Yes?

Actually, no. If you take an enemy region the hostile mines disappear.

Yes, I can confirm Durk is correct. I've captured several Russian coastal provinces in the game I'm currently playing and each time the mines go away automatically.

Do they then get replaced by friendly mines?

I have not seen vanquished mines being replaced by friendly mines.
I haven't seen anything in the rules to suggest you can lay mines.

You're right, there's nothing in the rules at all relating to them. But I figured since the system provides for the placement of minefields in pre-determined regions it might also re-generate them.

I've never noticed a single hit on any of my fleets (CP and EE) from frequently moving into mine-infested coastal regions.
I ignore the mines now.
