How exactly do generals die AND some questions about the NM?

What is the system that decides if a leader should perish in a battle or not? I mean - I've seen generals losing their whole armies and fleeing with their staff unhinged. I've seen as well - generals being killed in a medium to small battles...Appologies if the question has already been answered somewhere in the threads before me.

My second question is - what exactly is the system that decides wheter you should gain NM from a battle and exactly how much NM should you get? Is it a KIA ratio between you and the enemy or something?

Each element destroyed is worth a certain amount of NM and VPs. You can get them from that (if you win the battle). There should also be some from the difference in casualties. There is a % chance for each battle of a general dying. Also, if the entire attached unit is destroyed, the leader can be wounded/killed usually wounded (so if the leader is attached to a corps, and all other elements of the corps are destroyed, the leader can also be wounded, and out of action for awhile).
