I suggest he keeps his * stats and has just the reckless trait when promoted to ** and ***.

I have Hood at * as 5-5-1 "Charismatic leader" and "Reckless", at ** 5-4-1"Charismatic leader" and "Reckless" and as *** 5-3-1"Charismatic leader" and "Reckless" .
This IMO depicts well that the man was basically the same trough out the war, the tactics, tehcnologies and the armies where not.
