Quick fix: CW2 fixed executable, April 24
Posted: Fri Apr 24, 2015 2:56 pm
by Pocus
Hi,
Several people are now spotting that the AI is less aggressive than before. They are right. Here is a fixed EXE, we are awaiting your feedback but our own tests indicate situation seems back to normal.
A fix in the hosting time speed up that had a bug. This bug hampered the AI significantly.
A failed regional decision is always removed from play.
You always get a 5% MC if you have a non-passive force in a region.
Changed back how forbidden regions are displayed for RGD and units production.
This is the executable only, replace the current one with this one. This is normal you don't see version changes in the load screen.

Thanks, as always. Do quick-fixes/hot-fixes need to be manually installed in steam versions?

Odd. Link works fine for me.

Very strange ... with IE 11 it would not open. After reading your post, I tried Firefox. Opened right up! I think I am getting too old for computers, or something.

I never use Internet Exploder for anything. And thanks Pocus, I was
almost finished with my current game playing the Union and was about
to start a game playing the CSA, but I thought I'd better wait till this
was fixed. You guys are awesome. Best game developers ever!

I can't install this fix; the down load opens to my serial number, but does not go any further.
What does is mean? "replace the current one with this one."

You need to extract the file into your base Civil War II folder. It should prompt you to replace or overwrite the previous CW2.exe

It does download for me as a PHP file which is unexecutable. I think that folks have to remember that many of us are just simple gamers
and don't want or need to change browsers or know the 'tricks' to have to download needed patches and info. Patches and such should be
done always for the maximum ease for the most people, not for just those who know computers more. Myself I have been using computers
since the 8088 chip but I find it exhausting to have to constantly monitor and update or change files for specfic games or patches to run them.
I know someone will post on how 'easy' it is but if it does not download and run like a regular patch it is not easy but different and therefore
requires different means to run it. Consistancy is good.

I don't know what you are doing wrong because it's in a zip file and it's an .exe
All you have to do is unzip it and make the destination the file that the game is
in on your C drive (if that is where you have it). Perhaps you have something set
wrong when you download things, but I had no trouble downloading the .zip file
and then opening it with WinZip. Updates are exactly like that, except it's an
.exe file you run to update instead of replacing in the game folder. Anything more
elaborate than this quick fix will have to wait for a few days for a new patch,
probably within a week or so. This was a quickfix, so nothing very fancy.

I have an unzip program (not Winzip as its 29.95). It does not recognize this PHP file when i download it. I don't know how more simple
i can explain it. ALL files that are downloadable for a game should be based upon the SAME download/run system, not different ones. I
have IE and don't see any sane reason why I should have to change to another either.

You must rename the *.php file in *.rar and it should be ok (use an application to uncompress *.rar files).
I don't know why IE is not able to recognize this file extension.

Mickey3D is correct. The 'attachment.php' file is the actual download simply not named correctly.
It's an issue with IE11. It doesn't recognize that 'attachment.php' is a PHP script which will present IE with the actual file name to be downloaded;
Winzig-Weich WinDoof
, if you know what I mean.
I use
Free Download Manager. Even in IE11 it downloads correctly, but also in FireFox 37 and Chrome 42.
If I temporarily uninstall FDM I get the same above described behavior in IE11.

Thank you Pocus for addressing the issues so fast!
However, what the heck is a *.rar file? My computer does not recognize a *.rar type. Right clicking does nothing. Why not use a *.zip file that 99.9% of users understand? Can you explain how I open a *.rar file please. Step by step because I'm not good at computer jargon.
I use IE9 BTW, not 11.

.rar is a file compression format similar in concept to .zip, but using a different, more efficient algorithm. Most compression/decompression utilities will open .rar files and Windows will automatically use the utility if you have it installed. Just tell it to associate compressed files with the utility when you install it. A good, free one is 7-Zip (Google it). As for IE, you have my sympathy. I dumped it long ago for Firefox, also free.

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one with an issue. Thanks for the fix, Pocus! Things seem a lot better now.

Yes.

Something seems weird about getting rid of that last 5% MC compared to before. Without any enemy forces present fully non-passive armies stall at 95% control.
Is it now that you have to go offensive to remove the last 5% MC? And at 1% per turn?

ive put buregard at defensive hold at all cost stance but everytime a battleplanner initiates he becomes an attacker (orange) is that suppose to be like that ?? playing early turns the US invaded quickly my brigades are half formed @,@

I suspect that would be a bug, but it might help if you posted a save.

Pocus inferred in another recent post that part of MC is the simple presence of a force. So to gain 100% MC the region must be devoid of any enemy units.

That seems to be the remaining bug. In your example Beauregard should maintain at least 5% MC and not be forced to change to OP.
AndrewKurtz wrote:I suspect that would be a bug, but it might help if you posted a save.
It's a clearly reproducible bug that I believe Pocus is aware of.

Is this bug something that happens in every game with the hotfix? Or did something go wrong on my end that I could have avoided - A bad install perhaps?
Thanks.

It was there before the QF (Quick Fix) and AFAIK before the last official patch.

I did a quick search and I couldn't find anything about this bug. I guess I will take your word that it was present before this fix - it's just awfully coincidental that the first time I encountered it that it was along side a new change with 5% MC. Strange.
Is my saved game broke? It is a PBEM that I am hosting - I am not sure how to handle this situation. It affects every region that has been contested in any way.

Edit:
I processed the turn without the hotfix and my military control issue resolved itself.
