1.03 Quickfix 1

Dear players,

Here is a quickfix to official patch 1.03. This quick fix is not provided through the mean of a regular installer, because it is 'semi official'. It has not been approved by the Matrix QA department, but on the other hand the fixes have been made by the Ageod Team :)

This is a zip file. In there you will find CW2.EXE and a folder. Drop the folder and overwrite manually the corresponding folder in your game installation. Overwrite also the current EXE. If you are unsure how to copy and overwrite files, then you should probably not install the QF. No offence meant though! It is just that the QF is not official so only people knowing what they do should apply it.

We will see if we can move to a comprehensive Public Beta Patch 1.04 in May.

What if fixes:
An AI crash
It improves the AI

The events also have some fixes.

What are the event changes?

For that matter, what are the AI improvements?

Version number is still 1.03, I'll assume that is correct.

Based on the Date Modified column, changes were made to the CSA Events, USA Events, 1861 April Campaign, OptionsGov_July61, 1861 July Campaign, OptionsKY_1862, and OptionsKY_1861 files. So maybe the bugged Kentucky region and some cleanup of the 1861 scenarios?

They d/l'ed my brain to the server, but there was only so much they could do.

I've compared the differences in the event files Keeler points out and found the changes. If you like to play the game without knowing the backend, I highly recommend not reading this. A less spoilery summary might be created. I don't know how to do the semi-hide spoiler alert trick I see on some forums, so take this as your warning.

::SPOILER ALERT::

Looking at the changes in events, in the April 61 Events, transports can be created for the CSA in SW and SE regions that couldn't before and there is a change in how the events handling allowing the creation of armies and divisions works. It is a small change I don't understand.

In the CSA Events, Eastern Arizona is now an obective only for one month and only worth one VP. The Belle Boyd Arrested Event is shortened to one month (Not sure what it means, if the event only fires with a percent chance, then this means she can only be arrested in March of 1863). Similarly, the great revival event now has a max date of Jan 1 1864 and Submarines event dates were fixed (before min date was set twice and no max date was given, now min date = 1863/08/01 and max date = 1865/01/01). The same type of fix was made for the little davids event (I don't know it), and papal recognition has a max date of March 1864.

In the USA Events, when Sam Houston fires it changes how Dallas is made an objective (maybe this is a bug fix). Basically, Dallas is an objective city worth 5 VP a turn until December 1861. Ericcson's Folly is set to always occur on or before March 1862. the same min date/max date bug as for CSA was fixed for the camp dick robinson event. The Van Wyck event was fixed, before the min date was 1863/03/01, now it has a max date and occurs between 1861/11/01 and 1862/02/28. Similarly, the counterfeiter event has its old min date of 1862/02/21 and no max date changed to min date = 1862/01/01 and max date = 1862/02/28. In the great Sioux uprising, it changes how Richland and Nicholet are set as objectives (this could be a bug fix, both are worth 1 VP for a certain amount of time during the uprising). In scenarios that happen post 1862, Chasseurs d'Afrique are added and colored militia are added to the unit pool. The False Claims Act and Prize Cases Events have the min date moved back one month to 1863/04/01 and have max date 1864/01/01. The Submarines event now has a max date of 1864/01/01. The min date/max date bug was fixed on the prisoners policy event. And the min date/max date bug was introduced on the lost order 1862 event.

In the gov't files the changes are that raising taxes now gives 800 rather than 400 to USA and taxes, bonds, and printing money now gives 600 rather than 400 to CSA. And in both Kentucky files, the changes seem to unblock Henderson County.

These are the really important changes :)

Also changing how and how many VP are amassed from various regions, particularly Tuscon, but also temporarily in Dallas and the Sioux uprising counties. Also, I don't know if the changes work, I'm just guessing the intentions from the code.

I think the increase in Confederate funds raised from options works, however the text still says only 400 is raised.

That is because this is partial quick fix, mostly aimed at providing stability for some rare crashes. Pocus only posted cw2.exe and events files from the beta patch that is in progress. He did not post the full new patch. Tooltips are written in the files located in the settings folder (editable in excel), so that is why the tooltips are not updated as well. I could post the tooltips from the beta patch (work in progress), but I do not know if they would be compatible with the rest of the 1.03. patch, so I better leave the decision to the developers.

Yeah, I changed the text in my files, I just wanted to let people know what I saw so there wasn't confusion.

I think this is another bug in the quickfix. In the CSA and USA Events file, SetObjectives (to Tuscon or whatever) removes other objectives.

Yeah all the objectives disappear when the Arizona event happens, it looks like a cosmetic bug though as the amount of victory points per turn are still what they should be...

I think you are right. In my game it is now lat May 1862 and Tuscon is still the only objective in the objective screen both for me and for Union Athena. But mousing over the VPs, it looks like they are accruing as normal.

As Strategic cities, but perhaps the objectives are gone for good. We need to investigate the problem.

Edit: this is definitively a problem and a bug, the next QF will have it fixed. Thanks!

Just for fun, I decided to try loading in a saved quick fix 1 game back into the base v1.03 just to see what would happen. I got a good laugh when I looked at the F9 screen. Apparently, the Civil War moved at bit further south.

We had the impassible Henderson County, KY, bug in our ongoing PBEM under v. 1.03. Can the quickfix undo this bug mid-game? Or does it require a restart of the whole game? Thanks and let us know.

EDIT - I gather from another thread there may have been a QF2 on or after April 18. But I can't seem to find it. Same question as to that one - can it fix problems mid-game or does it require a restart?

2ND EDIT - OK, we figured out that you'd have to roll back to a turn before the Kentucky event fired. But that didn't work (for some reason). So it appears you can't fix ongoing games where Kentucky has already fired. Therefore, we are going to go ahead and end the game and either try RC4 or wait for the official 1.04.

So... install this quickfix, or not? I see the SetObjectives bug that tripax posted above, so I'm thinking "no".

IMHO you should go straight to 1.04 rc4 posted in this subforum

I agree with Franciscus, 1.04 rc4 works great and certainly doesn't have that bug.
