division surrendered but no message

In a PBEM as USA I lost a battle. I had one division. It seems to have taken 97 hits out of 123 from enemy fire and then the rest surrendered.

I have 2 suggestions / bug reports.

1. As you can see from the screen shot, the cohesion symbol (grid with a plus sign) obscures the -122 that is the number of hits the unit took. I can not find that number anywhere else so that is the only clue I have that the unit was destroyed. Also the unit name is not in red, which may be rounding error or whatever.

2. If a unit is eliminated, especially a division, you would think there should be a message in the messages about it. Messages about single element units might clutter up the message window, but divisions or brigades seem important. Also, my opponent got a message saying they captured 2900 prisoners, but I do not have a message saying 2900 surrendered.

It really would be helpful if there would be messages on eliminated divisions.
I haven't really noticed any such messages in my games.

Were there any messages about such-n-such a regiment being pursued and destroyed?

I believe there is a small chance that some elements might surrender after the battle, if their cohesion is low enough and they are in a region with high enemy MC and enemy units. In this case I believe they are captured without a message. This is actually outside the battle, to the Battle Report cannot report this.

From the situation it's not something that cannot be expected, but I suppose if elements are being lost, it should be reported.

If you check the tooltip on the icon for prisoners (second or third from the right on the bottom row next the general's picture), it will tell you how many of your men surrendered. It won't say the division was wiped out, but you can do the math and get a rough idea.

I agree, though, that the information should be more explicit.

It has always been the case, even in AACW, that units could be destroyed or captured directly after a battle. These are rather rare occurrences that only happen when retreating or routed units are in very poor condition, but they happened outside of the battle itself and therefore can not be included in the Battle Report.
