FILES ATTACHED FOR POCUS RE: Stranded generals...

Another issue that needs to be addressed are generals showing up "behind enemy lines". I realize that the game wants to reproduce the historical start dates and locations for generals on both sides but there needs to be a "plan B" if the original location has been taken by the enemy. For example, in my current game Union general Rosecrans appears near Cairo, IL behind my lines. He hangs around for a couple of turns while I try to kill him, then he moves SOUTH and I spy him later moving west through Missouri, still deep behind my lines (note, this is NOT a raid, he is not leading a unit).
There needs to be an alternative location (preferably deep behind friendly lines) that is triggers if the original location has fallen to the enemy. Either that or introduce the general one turn before the historical date but in a city deep in friendly territory (e.g. Chicago for the Union and Atlanta for the Confederacy).
Hopefully this will stop these orphaned, stranded generals from wandering forever... haunting the map like so many displaced ghosts.

Yes, vs IA there are a lot of enemy leaders walking deep in my territory (without unity in their stack).

Unfortunately, Athena (the AI) does that a lot. Don't know why she does it, but she likes to send single generals wandering around behind your lines.

Spoils the game a bit for me. Can't AGEOD fix this? Surely there is a way to prevent generals from going behind enenmy lines with no troops??

Send me a saved game with a clear problem on that, I might improve the AI this way.

Thanks Pocus. Is it the .hst file that you need? How do i send it to you? I can't see an 'attach' option here.
PS I just tried to upload a .hst file from saves but it says 'invalid file'??

I have attached the files here. Note in the latest save (1862 Early June). There are THREE AI controlled Union generals in ridiculous situations:
1) Rosecrans is in Smith, AR on his own. He started just south of Cairo. IL (behind enemy lines) and then went SOUTH deeper into enemy territory.
2) Union general in Henderson, NC with only supply unit. This general came in through Fort Munroe, and was in that area for several turns. Then he just decided to go south into North Carolina on his own.
3) Reynolds, in Winchester VA. This General has been here for at least three turns. Despite the region being invaded by a large force under Lee.
Please fix these issues. I am playing on Lieutenant/ AI activation +1/ AI extra time/ AI low detect bonus.

Here's the script files. I keep getting an error message when I try to upload the logs or the AI files.

Feeling like I'm stranded behind enemy lines myself. Is anyone paying attention to this important issue. I have uploaded the requested files. Please respond.

Logic: if leader without troops, search troops, they'll be headed home immediately

LOL, I have the same issue with three Yankee Generals surrounding Richmond. They have been there for over two months. I sent Cavalry out in offensive mode to kill them! lol, but they could not located them apparently.

Yeh!! Those AI yankee generals seem to think they can win the war by themselves! They are difficult to locate and kill, which I guess makes sense. I wish AGEOD would fix these wandering AI generals though... it really does spoil the immersion of the game for me.

Hail to thee my gentle lords (and ladies?)
Using your save, I have reworked part of the AI, and high level leaders won't chase anymore small groups, to command them (this what wanted to do Rosecrans). As for idle, lone leaders in enemy land, they will not cease until they are back in the GHQ region of the theater they are in.
That's for 1.02, on which I have no ETA

Thanks Pocus! I think the other problem here is that the AI doesn't know what to do with NEW generals who appear in enemy held territory. Sometimes they just sit there for several turns... Maybe the AI could check a region before placing a new scheduled General. If the region is overrun by the enemy there should be a "fall back" region safe behind friendly lines (Chicago for Union, Atlanta for Confederacy). The general then appears in the safe region and makes his way to the front/ to join a friendly unit. What do you think?? Thanks!
